Consultant Oncology Thoracic Malignancies We are looking for a Medical Oncologist Consultant with an interest in Lung Cancers to strengthen our workforce in North Wales. Job Overview The Cancer Division is embracing new models of working and innovation. We have recently welcomed Physician’s Associates, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and a Consultant Radiographer, and we are exploring technologies to support the service. The successful candidate will be based in Ysbyty Gwynedd, with an on‑call element (1 in 5 basis). We welcome applications from clinicians who specialise in other tumour sites and will work to create a role that benefits both the individual and the department. Main Duties Provide specialist oncological services for the population served, with reference to common cancers and agreed oncology subspecialties, and actively participate in the relevant Multidisciplinary Teams. Work closely with Clinical Consultant colleagues and other departments to ensure seamless cancer care for all patients. Assist with efficient service delivery for patients transferring between disciplines, and liaise with Oncology, Haematology and Palliative Care for inpatient cover. Develop a site specialist and research interest, including clinical research and patient enrollment into appropriate national and international studies. Person Specification Essential Criteria Full GMC Registration or within 6 months of obtaining CCT from date of interview. MB ChB or equivalent. MRCP or equivalent. Appropriate experience in training grade posts at SpR/SR level. Published research and active encouragement of research with junior staff. Commitment to personal development and medical education. Ability to travel when required and to be flexible in response to service needs. Desirable Criteria Higher Degree (e.g., PhD). Experience leading multidisciplinary teams. Teaching, clinical audit, and computer/IT skills. Leadership skills appropriate to directing and teaching allied health professions. Research degree. Ability to speak Welsh or a willingness to learn. Skills And Ability Essential Ability to gain confidence and trust. Ability to cope with pressure and respond to change. Ability to educate and train junior medical staff. Ability to travel between sites for peripheral clinics. Demonstrates good interpersonal skills with patients, relatives, and the clinical team. Excellent communication skills. Desirable Computer and IT skills. Leadership skills for teaching medical and nursing staff. Additional Requirements Commitment to personal development and medical education. Ability to travel when required to meet the needs of the service. Ability to be flexible in response to the changing needs of the service.
