W Talent are proud to be working exclusively with Wolf Safety, based in Sheffield, which is now looking to recruit a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to join its highly skilled, technically focused team.
Wolf Safety is a long-established UK manufacturer of portable and temporary lighting equipment for use in hazardous (ATEX) environments, with a strong reputation for quality, reliability and engineering excellence. The company designs and manufactures products that are trusted by customers worldwide.
As a close-knit, family-owned business of fewer than 50 people, Wolf Safety benefits from an established multidisciplinary engineering team of eight, covering electronics, mechanical design, certification and compliance. Due to an upcoming retirement, this position will play a key role in supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) alongside ongoing manufacturing operations.
The Role
This is a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer position focused on bridging R&D and manufacturing. The post-holder will support the introduction of new products into production, help define and improve assembly processes, and provide technical support to manufacturing and quality teams throughout the product lifecycle. Working closely with R&D, QA and Operations, the role will drive design for manufacture, assembly and repair, while also supporting troubleshooting, continuous improvement and long-term product support.
Key Responsibilities
Support NPI activities by establishing robust assembly and test processes in collaboration with R&D, QA and Production.
Drive design for manufacture, assembly and repair through practical engineering input.
Provide ongoing technical support for existing manufacturing processes, including troubleshooting assembly, encapsulation and soldering issues.
Support Operations with product obsolescence planning as new products are introduced.
Analyse part usage, stock levels and build strategies to support economically sound decisions.
Perform root cause analysis of product failures, combining practical investigation with desktop analysis.
Support batch sample approval activities, including lumen output, duration and performance testing.
Assist with sustainability, cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives.
Monitor life testing and assist with investigating failures.
Engage with suppliers for quotations, technical queries and issue resolution.
Coordinate with external suppliers where required.
Create, review and maintain Work and Test Instructions (WTIs) to ensure consistent, compliant assembly.
Create and maintain part numbers and Bills of Materials (BOMs) within the MRP system.
Monitor and report on long-term and life testing activities.
Skills & Experience
Applicants must live within a commutable distance of Saxon Road in Sheffield and have the ability and right to work in the UK, as sponsorship cannot be provided.
Qualified in an engineering discipline (minimum HND / Foundation Degree or equivalent).
Practical, hands-on engineering experience in a manufacturing or production engineering environment.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently while collaborating with wider teams.
Good time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks or projects concurrently.
Ability to extract, analyse and present data (e.g. Power BI or similar tools).
Familiarity with manufacturing methodologies such as Lean, Kanban or continuous improvement.
Salary and Benefits
The role is based in Sheffield with a starting salary of £35,000-£40,000, plus a company bonus. It is a 34.5-hour week, office-based Monday to Thursday with the option to work from home on Fridays.
Why Apply
This is a varied, hands-on role providing exposure across the full product lifecycle, with the opportunity to join an established, multidisciplinary engineering team of eight.
