Principal/Senior or Experienced HV Plant Design Engineer (Substation Design) Overview The transmission and distribution sector is transforming rapidly against a backdrop of growing demand, regulatory changes, ambitious carbon reduction targets, and new innovations in technology. This role focuses on HV plant design for electrical substations and related HV power systems, with involvement in FEED design, detailed design, refurbishment, and new-build projects across country. Projects may include HVDC, interconnectors, windfarms, substations, OHL, geotechnical solutions, building design, protection systems, LVAC, FEED, and connection schemes. The successful candidate will join the HV team and work with other disciplines to deliver FEED and detailed design for substations refurbishment, extensions and new-build projects. Experience working with key T&D clients in the UK is desirable. You will be joining a growing and collaborative team, developing innovative and sustainable solutions to industry-wide efficiency and environmental challenges. Responsibilities Work as part of the HV team on electrical substation design projects, coordinating with other disciplines and stakeholders. Support and lead FEED design and detailed design for substation refurbishment, extensions, and new-build projects. Produce design and specifications for HV Substation plant electrical power systems and associated components; contribute to protection and control (P&C) aspects where relevant. Engage with clients and a range of project disciplines to develop innovative, sustainable solutions and meet project objectives. Mentor and coach colleagues within the energy team and contribute to a positive, collaborative environment. Work with UK clients and understanding of T&D industry practices; willingness to learn and adapt to evolving standards. About You / Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field. Experience as HV Substation / Primary Plant Design Engineer with design and specification production for HV substation power systems. Understanding of Protection & Control (P&C) aspects is preferable. Pro-active, with knowledge of the electricity transmission and distribution industry, and the ability to coach and collaborate within the energy team.
