Overview Are you a dynamic and forward-thinking neonatal nurse? We have a vacancy for a Band 6 QIS‑trained nurse on the Maternity Ward providing and overseeing transitional care at New Cross Hospital. The neonatal team offers a full range of specialist services to facilitate a timely, safe and effective patient journey throughout the health care system. Key Responsibilities Provide 24‑hour, 7‑day a week care with a shift pattern of days and nights to meet service needs; flexible working and part‑time hours are also accepted. Deliver transitional care to all newborn babies within the SSBC Neonatal Network from 23/40 weeks gestation. Oversee the 7 intensive care cots, 7 high‑dependency cots, 12 special‑care cots and 8 transitional care cots. Lead the clinical area and coordinate nursing/midwifery interventions in the absence of the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse. Support the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse in ensuring a culture of protecting patients from harm and deprivation of basic rights, maintaining a safe and effective service with continuous quality improvement. Promote a clean and safe environment for staff, patients and visitors, ensuring compliance with legislation, policies and protocols including health and safety and infection prevention. Record and maintain high standards of care in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council, Health and Care Professions Council, national legislation and local standards. Assess risks and use safe medical devices, monitoring care standards and acting appropriately when standards fall below expectations. Report incidents and near misses promptly and take effective action to minimise future risk. Contribute to the development and implementation of evidence‑based protocols, standards, policies and clinical guidelines. Critically appraise and synthesise relevant research and audits, applying information to improve practice. Ensure an effective, efficient patient journey by planning and coordinating episodes of care, promoting safe and effective discharge and optimising communication with inter‑disciplinary and inter‑agency teams. Support the development of a culture of person‑centred care and maintain a caring environment where equality, diversity and patient partnership are respected. Act as an advocate for the patient, ensuring safe and harm‑free care in every decision. Develop your own personal skills and knowledge, supporting the development of the service and personal career progression. Facilitate robust communication networks within the team and work harmoniously with colleagues, patients and clients. Support learning and development of junior staff, ensuring effective learning opportunities and appropriate induction programmes. Participate in recruitment, selection, performance management and sickness absence management within your practice setting. Support the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse in creating and maintaining a learning environment that ensures effective learning opportunities for staff and students, including mentoring, coaching and clinical supervision. Lead by example, develop self and other staff and influence the way care is provided in a manner that is innovative and responsive to individual needs. Ensure effective contribution to the delivery of the organisation’s objectives, acting up in the absence of the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse. Shift Pattern All applicants should be flexible, providing 24 hour, 7 days a week service, working a shift pattern of days and nights to meet the needs of the service.
