An exciting opportunity has arisen for a post in our Neonatal department at New Cross Hospital Wolverhampton for a Neonatal Clinical Fellow. This post is for a tier 2 paediatric doctor (ST4 and above) interested in pursuing a career in neonatology. About the Post The position is based at the tertiary NICU at New Cross Hospital, which has 26 cots. The unit is the tertiary referral centre for high‑risk obstetric and neonatal care with over 5,000 deliveries per year. The post includes coverage of the labour ward, post‑natal wards, and collaboration with consultants, other middle‑grade and junior doctors, and nursing staff. The team also includes Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners and Enhanced Practice nurses. Responsibilities Support the inpatient neonatal service at New Cross Hospital. Provide outpatient care in consultant‑led clinics. Deliver research, education, audit and continuing professional development activities. Take responsibility for CPD in accordance with college/faculty guidelines. Initiate and participate in research and quality improvement programmes under Trust policies. Ensure clinical governance requirements are met. Provide neonatal intensive care ward cover, post‑natal and transitional care, and attend births with resuscitation requirements. Deliver clinical care to neonatal patients under supervision. Maintain proper case records, investigations, and correspondence with GPs and other professionals. Participate in clinical and service activities to uphold high standards of patient care. Work flexibly and cross‑cover for colleagues. Take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training. Contribute to the management, development, and research of the clinical service. Provide cover for colleagues as per Trust arrangements and policy. Observe Trust policies and procedures, including health and safety and hazard reporting. Ensure adequate arrangements for staff contact and communication. Support professional development with study leave and budgetary provisions. Collaborate with an educational supervisor and mentor as part of a full‑time fixed‑term appointment. Report to and be managerially accountable to the Clinical Director of Neonatal services. Shift Pattern and Working Hours The fellow will work an average 1:7 shift‑based rota: Standard working day: 09:00 – 17:00 Daytime on‑call: 09:00 – 22:00 Night shift: 21:00 – 10:00 Contract Details Initial term: 12 months, with a possibility of extension. Annual leave entitlement: 27 days plus 8 bank holidays, pro‑rata for contracts of less than 12 months. Shift coverage includes absence of colleagues on study and annual leave. Qualifications and Experience Registered with the General Medical Council (GMC). Previous neonatal or closely allied specialty experience (UK or equivalent). Full MRCPCH or equivalent level highly desirable. Eligibility for GMC registration sponsorship provided through the Clinical Fellowship Programme.
