Perioperative Care Nurse Practitioner

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our expanding and innovative Perioperative care team at UHS. The post holder will work within the Perioperative care service, helping to ensure that patients are fully optimised prior to surgery to improve their experience, reduce perioperative risks and contribute to reducing elective surgery waiting times. Working within our Perioperative Care service covers surgical Pre‑Assessment, the Perioperative anaemia service, cardio‑pulmonary exercise testing, pre‑habilitation, fit‑for‑surgery school, shared decision‑making service and an expanding early screening programme for the new Hampshire Orthopaedic Centre. The focus of this role will be to cover the Pre‑Assessment service with the view to work at both Southampton and Lymington (once trained and competent to work independently). Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities You will join a friendly and enthusiastic multi‑disciplinary team who pride themselves on delivering patient‑centred care. The successful candidate will have previous experience working within peri‑operative care as an autonomous Nurse Practitioner and will be dedicated to continuous learning, improvement and innovation. Responsibilities include: Providing comprehensive pre‑assessment of patients scheduled for surgery. Conducting assessments and coordinating optimisation interventions to reduce peri‑operative risks. Participating in early screening and referral processes for the Hampshire Orthopaedic Centre. Travelling between Southampton and Lymington sites and managing flexible working arrangements as required. Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to support shared decision‑making and patient education. Person Specification Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Essential: Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma) Registered nurse on the appropriate part of the register Evidence of supporting learners in practice Completion of all Nurse Practitioner competencies including History Taking and Physical Examination Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development Significant Post‑Registration Experience within the chosen specialty Broad awareness of wider Trust initiatives and pressures Desirable: Independent Non‑Medical Prescribing Qualification Registered on MSc Pathway as an experienced practitioner Further study at Level 7 within relevant pathway Leadership qualification (RCP, LDC, Edward Jenner, Elizabeth Garret Anderson, Nye Bevan) Job Details Seniority level: Mid‑Senior level Employment type: Full‑time Job function: Health Care Provider Industries: Hospitals and Health Care Diversity and Inclusion At UHS we proudly champion individuality, recognising that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team.
