Perioperative Care Nurse Practitioner

Job Overview University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. We are looking for an experienced perioperative care Nurse Practitioner to join our expanding and innovative Perioperative Care Service. Main Duties of the Job The post holder will work within the Perioperative Care Service, helping to ensure that patients are fully optimised prior to surgery to improve their experience, reduce perioperative risks and contribute to reducing elective surgery waiting times. The service includes surgical Pre-Assessment, the Perioperative anaemia service, Cardio‑pulmonary exercise testing, Prehabilitation, fit for surgery school and a Shared decision‑making service. We are also expanding our early screening programme to ensure appropriate referral of patients to the new Hampshire Orthopaedic Centre. Currently the focus of this role will be to cover the Pre‑Assessment service with the view to work at both Southampton and Lymington once you are trained and competent to work independently. Responsibilities Provide autonomous patient assessment and optimisation prior to surgery. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to shared decision‑making. Assist with early screening and referral to the Hampshire Orthopaedic Centre. Travel between Southampton and Lymington sites as required. Engage in continuous learning, improvement and innovation within the service. Person Specification Essential Criteria Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma) Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register Evidence of supporting learners in practice Completion of all Nurse Practitioner competencies including History Taking and Physical Examination Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development Significant Post Registration Experience within chosen specialty Broad awareness of wider Trust initiatives / pressures Desirable Criteria Independent Non Medical Prescribing Qualification Registered on MSc Pathway as an experienced practitioner Further study at Level 7 within relevant pathway Leadership qualification (RCN, LDC, Edward Jenner, Elizabeth Garret Anderson, Nye Bevan) Seniority level Mid‑Senior level Employment type Full‑time Job function Health Care Provider Industries Hospitals and Health Care #J-18808-Ljbffr
