Job Description

Start here. Grow here.

Are you ready to join a team of talented engineers and shape the future of water infrastructure?

Join our innovative and multidisciplinary Water Engineering team as a Principal Civil Engineer in our rapidly growing St Albans, Croydon, Basingstoke, Birmingham, Exeter, Cardiff and Bristol offices. Benefit from our flexible hybrid working model and be part of a forward-thinking organisation. At AECOM, we lead innovation, delivering an exceptional portfolio of water programs and projects through long-term partnerships with key clients, including Thames Water, Southern Water, and Severn Trent Water, along with international projects and Tier 1 Contractors. Our Water Team works on a variety of projects of all scales, including potable water and sewage networks, and treatment works from feasibility to detailed design, and asset management. This position offers an unparalleled opportunity to be part of a talented, diverse team committed to innovation and efficiency.

Here’s what you’ll do:
  1. Oversee: Manage the delivery of complex tasks and projects, ensuring budget and project management. Lead the technical delivery on various projects, reviewing work produced by others to ensure timely and accurate results.
  2. Provide Expertise: Offer technical knowledge and expertise to the design team on all design stages, including feasibility studies, outline design, detailed designs, and preparing technical specifications.
  3. Ensure Quality: Ensure design compliance with all applicable standards and regulations, providing technical expertise for interdisciplinary analytical studies.
  4. Collaborate: Work closely with clients to develop scope, price proposals, and communicate project progress. Collaborate with our team of Engineers, Hydraulic Modellers, Environmental and Technical Specialists to solve problems and deliver benefits to the communities we serve.
  5. Develop: Support the development of junior team members and undertake line management responsibilities.

If you're passionate about innovation and turning bold ideas into reality, AECOM welcomes you. Join our team, where we don't just construct infrastructure but also uplift communities and enhance lives.

Qualifications

Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?

Here’s what we’re looking for:
  1. Proven experience within the water sector at, or close to, the Principal level, ideally within the UK or with a good appreciation of UK norms and standards.
  2. Chartered or Incorporated with a relevant institution e.g. ICE, CIWEM, or working towards it.
  3. Experience in outline and/or detailed design, preferably in wastewater/water networks and treatment schemes, flood risk management, assessment, or drainage schemes.
  4. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification/demonstrable equivalent experience.

We celebrate diversity, including neurodiversity, and believe it enriches our team. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and abilities. If you are an applicant with a disability that requires reasonable accommodation to complete the application process, please contact us at ReasonableAccommodations@aecom.com. At AECOM, we value everyone's unique contributions and perspectives.
