We are looking for an Experienced Clinician to take a lead working in our Assertive Outreach Team (AOT). This role is part of the Kirklees and Calderdale CAMHS crisis team, focusing on working with young people who have severe and enduring mental health difficulties and are finding it difficult to engage with and access mainstream service. You will be required to have a significant amount of autonomy as you will be leading on some of the service development of the team, with support from the team manager. Ideally, you will have extensive experience working within the field of children’s mental health in a health care setting, especially managing risk in health settings. As this role is acting as a lead practitioner within the team, experience of service development and implementing service change is needed. As part of this role, you will attend multiagency meetings where you will represent the service and discuss complex cases as well as liaison with other teams/services both internally and with external partners. You must have a professional registration to be able to apply for this post. All employees of the Trust are strongly encouraged to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to protect patients. Job Responsibilities You will work autonomously within the context of a multi-disciplinary team approach and undertake specific clinical work with patients and their families who can often present with a range of complex mental health needs. You will support our partners within wider services and provide clinical supervision to staff. The need to work flexibly to support the needs of the service is essential. In this role you will also provide training to colleagues across the district. You will work alongside colleagues to support young people who are experiencing mental ill health and will draw upon your extensive clinical knowledge and relevant experience of assessing and managing risk within a mental health and community setting. You will undertake assessments of young peoples mental health needs and work collaboratively to develop plans with families and carers to ensure safe discharge from hospital. You will need good working relationships with key professionals, families and young people therefore, excellent communication and engagement skills are essential. Experience and a commitment to improving service delivery and developing new ways of supporting the wider team is essential. Key Result Areas Clinical Work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility in accordance with the Trust Policies and procedures. Have highly developed skills in assessing the needs of children and their carers based on the analysis of highly complex facts and situations. Interventions will be planned based on the assessment information and interpretation of this. Offer highly specialist expertise in child and adolescent mental health, ensuring clear documentation in all appropriate case notes and sharing assessments and information with the family and all relevant professionals. Undertake highly specialist initial assessments of young people following acts of serious self-harm and attempted suicide in line with evidence based practice. Undertake highly specialised risk assessments following referral for presentations requiring urgent mental health or psychiatric assessment and plan relevant interventions. Implement intensive interventions with young people and their families, including group and individual work, systemic family interventions. Provide therapeutic care to emotionally demanding clients in highly emotive situations. Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with children and carers, including cases of high complexity. Deliver and devise complex packages of care as part of the multi-disciplinary team. Take a lead role in setting guidelines and standards for discharge from Specialist CAMHS. Communicate highly complex information regarding personal psycho-social problems in an empathic and supportive way using the highest level of interpersonal skills. Work with children, young people (0-18) and their families, liaising with external agencies (Education, Social Services and Paediatric Services). Apply safeguarding principles and guidelines in clinical work. Deputise for the team leader in his/her absence. Apply Trust policies and procedures in instances of aggression, acute distress and disturbed mental health presentations. Human Resources Take responsibility in developing, managing and coordinating the supervision systems for the team. Support other team members in managing cases, providing joint working where appropriate on specific therapeutic techniques. Manage and coordinate rotas for all disciplines within CAMHS specific to their own area of specialism. Support the Clinical Governance Lead within the service and participate in the development and maintenance of governance processes, i.e. clinical incident reporting, risk management. Contribute to the induction of new starters in the service. Responsible for first line resolution of complaints in line with Trust policy. Responsible for budgetary requirement of equipment necessary for clinical interventions. Research Identify and undertake R & D activity where appropriate, responsible for regular audit projects/service evaluations and for the development of research projects in line with evidence based practice. Participate and take a lead role in audit, service evaluation and quality management initiative. Deliver and supervise others to participate in audit pertaining to their specialist area ensuring agreed results are implemented. Utilise theory, evidence based literature and research to support evidence based practice. Maintain links with academic institutions. Introduce quality initiatives through consultation with colleagues. Be committed to a quality approach for patient care. Policy and Service Development Lead on service developments and provide information and data for other proposals as required. Promote and lead patient and public involvement strategies within the clinical environment. Deputise in the team leaders absence at service business meetings within CAMHS and relevant departments within Children’s Services. Identify training and development needs for effective service provision. Address the clinical governance agenda (clinical effectiveness, education and training, communication, audit, risk management). Contribute to and change practice in response to corporate developments. Teaching, Training and Supervision Provide clinical supervision to CAMHS staff in highly specialist areas of complex mental health presentations. Organise and facilitate relevant professional development and training opportunities on specialist subjects to the CAMHS MDT. Contribute fully to the in‑service training programme within the CAMHS team and Children’s services. Provide clinical teaching/supervision to CAMHS staff and students whilst maintaining close links with higher education institutions. Provide a developmental environment for junior members of staff. Provide teaching and training to multi‑agency services, statutory and voluntary, on highly specialist subjects. Offer advice, consultation and supervision to professionals caring for young people with severe emotional and behavioural problems and mental health issues. Act as an information source regarding children’s and young peoples' mental health needs and the range of service provision available. Actively share specialist knowledge, skills and expertise for the benefit of service users and their carers. Provide knowledge and skills of cross‑cultural therapeutic work. Contribute to multi‑disciplinary team case discussions and provide peer group support. Take responsibility for own continuing professional development. Receive clinical supervision and use quality performance management process to facilitate evidence based practice. Participate in regular training, update and develop own portfolio to maintain professional qualification and registration. Participate in annual appraisals. Post‑qualification training in identified portfolio, e.g. LD, LAC, eating disorder, Dip SW or relevant mental health profession. A teaching and assessing qualification. Membership of professional body. Desirable Post‑graduate qualification in mental health (e.g. CBT, Family Therapy, Counselling). Masters level qualification. Formal management/supervisory qualification. Special Knowledge & Skills Excellent verbal and communication skills. Ability to manage own caseload and be a self‑reliant and autonomous practitioner. Substantial post‑qualification experience, some of which must be working with children, young people and their carers in a mental health or other complex care setting. Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance for working with children, young people, mental health and safeguarding.
