Previous experience is not essential as training will be provided, however an enthusiasm to learn new skills and knowledge is essential. Our JAG accredited Endoscopy Unit comprises of 6 procedure rooms which covers both inpatient and outpatient procedures. This includes a range of diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal, and respiratory procedures, including OGDs, flexible sigmoidoscopies, colonoscopies, bronchoscopies, EBUS, EUS, ERCP, transbronchial biopsies, capsules, TNE, enteroscopies and stenting. We also support the nationally accredited Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. Main duties of the job The post holder is responsible for providing specialised care to meet the needs of patients undergoing Endoscopic procedures. Your role will be to access, plan, implement, evaluate, holistic, high‑quality and individualised care which respects personal privacy, dignity and beliefs whilst maintaining a safe working environment for patients, visitors and staff and promoting effective communication within the care team and with colleagues, patients, relatives and visitors. Delivering a high standard of patient care whilst working as part of the Endoscopy Team and displaying a caring and professional attitude at all times is essential. The post holder is expected to be flexible and work in all areas of Endoscopy, including, but not limited to: procedure rooms including x‑ray, pre‑assessment, cannulation, admission and recovery of patients, giving pre‑ and post‑procedure advice, using specialised technical equipment and providing technical support during endoscopy procedures. Please note: This job requires a good level of manual handling ability and can be physically and mentally demanding. The Endoscopy Unit is currently open between 08:00 and 18:30 Monday to Sunday, with the Nursing Team working four days per week. Participation in the Endoscopy Nursing on‑call out of hours service following your supernumerary period is mandatory. Job responsibilities *Please Note : For a detailed job description for this vacancy, please see attached Job Description* Person Specification Qualifications *Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level leading to Professional registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register i.e. (Adult / Child / Learning Disability or Mental Health) *Evidence of undergraduate education for newly qualified nurses / or post graduate continuing professional development for registered nurses who have post‑registration experience Experience *Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary health and care setting (can include undergraduate student placements within the last 12 months) *Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor to or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment * Demonstrable understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct and the proficiencies and standards for registered nurses can apply this to undergraduate training or post graduate practice *Being an accountable professional *Promoting health and preventing ill health *Assessing needs and planning care *Providing and evaluating care *Leading and managing nursing care and working in teams -- including prioritisation and delegation skills *Coordinating care and responding to deteriorating health *Improving safety and quality of care *Awareness of current relevant clinical and professional issues and NHS policy *Understanding / experience of the principles of Safeguarding and Mental Capacity *Awareness of Health and Safety issues. *Experience in working in an Acute NHS practice setting as an undergraduate student nurse or post graduate registered nurse. Additional Criteria *Demonstrable communication and relationship management skills which include *Listening -- writing -- reading -- speaking in English with understanding of contemporaneous record keeping *Good IT skills ability to record information electronically *Competent in a range of clinical skills/ nursing procedures willingness to undertake expanded practices relevant to the scope of practice require *Competent in managing the care of a group of patients / shift management (take charge of the practice setting in the absence of more senior staff) relevant to the practise setting. *Professional appearance *Displays genuine interest in the post applied for *Positive and enthusiastic attitude *Caring and approachable *Ability to work a varied shift pattern including nights / weekends unsocial hours where required *The applicant can describe why the Trust may deploy him /her to a different practice setting for a span of duty.
