Senior Health Play Specialist Radiotherapy/Proton Beam Therapy

Role Overview Senior Health Play Specialist (HPS) to support children and young people up to 18 years old and their families throughout the Radiotherapy (RT) and Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) pathway. Key Responsibilities Initial consultations and meetings with new families. Assessment of child and family needs. Preparation and support for procedures such as CT, MRI and treatment. Individualised preparation sessions and visits to treatment machines. Support patients & families on the General Anaesthetic pathway. Provide general play and recreation. Maintain documentation and attend MDT and clinic meetings. Mentor students, deliver teaching sessions and presentations. Develop and improve the play and recreation service across both departments. Contribute to safeguarding, quality and safety improvements. Co‑operate with external partners such as GOSH and other referring hospitals. Qualifications & Experience Experience working with children and young people in a healthcare setting. Ability to engage sensitively with families under stress. Strong communication skills and teamwork with multidisciplinary colleagues. Knowledge of evidence‑based therapeutic play and recreational interventions. Capability to plan, implement, evaluate and manage projects in the play and recreation area. Commitment to safeguarding and continuous improvement of services. Working Environment Work primarily within a small Health Play Specialist team in RT/PBT, while benefiting from the wider play and youth services at UCLH.
