In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), Modern Languages and Linguistics at Cardiff University was ranked 7th of 57 submissions in the UK for the quality and impact of its research.The School of Modern Languages is located within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and is home to approximately 900 undergraduate and postgraduate students and 54 academic staff. The School is recognised for its interdisciplinary teaching and research in Translation Studies, French, German, Spanish (with Catalan), Italian, Portuguese and Japanese. We are currently developing a suite of undergraduate programmes in Chinese Studies.The School is also the home of a successful University wide ‘Languages for All’ programme, launched in September 2014. This is an integral part of Cardiff’s mission to extend its international reach. Staff and students are central to the vision of the School and the School and University invests in staff training and development in order to nurture leaders in research and teaching. At this time of expansion and development, the School has the opportunity to make a number of key strategic appointments, including a Professorship in Translation Studies.You will be an outstanding scholar and academic leader of international distinction in the field of Translation Studies. You will have the vision and proven capacity to lead colleagues in successful external research grant capture and you will have produced high impact research and high quality publications.
