Key Responsibilities Ensure risk management processes are in line with CDM 2015 and deliver design management plans, risk registers, and other documentation. Work closely with the project team to ensure all aspects of the Principal Designer role are performed. Assist Designers in applying the Principles of Prevention to design out risks and hazards to the extent reasonably practicable. Assist the Client with the provision of Pre‑construction Information. Provide Pre‑construction Information to all Designers and Contractors. Prepare the Health and Safety File. Pass the Health and Safety File to the Principal Contractor or Client as appropriate. Attend site to establish pre‑construction conditions, site layout and collect or assess extents of prior H&S/O&M, site risk manager information. Review and support the transfer of risk information from the design team to enable CPP development; review CPP for initial start‑up and risk assessments. Conduct safety audits on a regular basis to monitor progress and statutory compliance on site, with monthly reporting. Implement near‑miss and accident reporting mechanisms and databases in line with client process. Support continual improvement programme; promote lessons‑learnt sessions for the Project Team to improve engagement and H&S awareness at all levels. What We'll Be Looking For NEBOSH Diploma or Construction Certificate (or higher) or equivalent health and safety qualification. Experience acting as CDM Principal Designer on medium to large projects. Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and wider construction health and safety legislation. Excellent communication and coordination skills, with ability to lead meetings and engage confidently with clients, designers, and contractors. Proficient in preparing pre‑construction information, design risk registers, and Health and Safety Files (CDM Documentation). Strong written and verbal communication skills. Effective time management and organisation. Desirable Qualifications Degree or equivalent in a construction‑related discipline or civil engineering. Experience with National Grid Transmission in the capacity of Principal Design Representative, or a comparable role within a similar sector. Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IOSH, APS, RIBA, ICE, CIOB, CABE).
