In partnership with bp (British Petroleum), we have been selected to construct a first‑of‑a‑kind fully integrated gas‑fired power station with carbon capture and storage – a key driver behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster. Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Senior General Foreman to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project at our site in Redcar and Cleveland. What you’ll be doing Oversee small work packages and support construction managers on larger packages, ensuring completion safely, on time, and within budget. Coordinate with subcontractors, manage schedules, handle permits and regulations, and ensure quality control and safety compliance. Health, Safety & Environment Know what safety excellence looks like and communicate the safety message Actively engage with the customer to understand and deliver key objectives Promote sustainable solutions and environmental compliance around all operations Accountable for RAMs, Procedures and SSOW in place for the section of work Manage plant movements, sign‑offs, checklists and specifications under company requirements/systems Support accident investigation with the HSE team Own and deliver Daily DABs Briefings Production Control Understand project plans and schedules to plan short‑ and medium‑term schedules within the programme Manage and implement the schedules/programmes within the project scheme, including short‑term programmes Own and manage sections of work ensuring subcontractors meet contractual obligations with competent decision‑making Implement short‑interval control progress records that are commercial and contractually viable Develop short‑term programmes into marked‑up plans to aid planning, records and logistics Run own small‑scale DABs relevant to the section of works including short‑interval control integration Logistics Instigate effective logistics with subcontractors and other members of the BB Project team Solve logistical conflicts to ensure the responsible works are successful with short‑ and long‑term planning in sync with the schedule/programme Analyze each element for project‑specific logistical requirements Own sequence and phasing Understand plant and lifting requirements for tasks under responsibility Quality & Technical Participate in management of internal/external design & quality teams/consultants/customers to meet project deadlines Technically foresee, identify, and conclude design errors/deficiencies Lead in the technical delivery of Quality Assurance Identify and manage quality issues and NCRs from cradle to grave to ensure technical accuracy and compliance Contribute to development and application of building safety and fire safety strategies, practices, and technological systems in buildings Approve/ sign‑off works with confidence Understand hold points and handover requirements throughout the construction cycle Commercial Understand commercial implications and drivers within the construction process and incorporate into decision‑making Build and understand scopes (project and supply chain) and contractual obligations for their element of work Identify procurement requirements and commercial impact of delays, with effective records and management culpability Support commercial team with accurate site records and backup during disputes Process additional works and support BB position (day works) Who we’re looking for Skills Support communications that manage relationships Implement basic leadership skills Improve safety and sustainability performance Assist in negotiations and conflict resolutions, leading others to do the same Assist management of data and processes Implement basic construction management principles Assist stakeholder management Advanced IT skills for BIM and construction management tools Knowledge Awareness of construction techniques, methodologies and management principles Awareness of budgeting and cost control Understanding of scheduling and programme management, short‑term planning for overall construction programme Basic principles of regulatory requirements and standards Understanding safety protocols and best practices Basic principles in contract negotiation and procurement Understanding of quality assurance and quality control processes Awareness of risk management and mitigation strategies Awareness of environmental sustainability practices Awareness of construction technology and innovation Awareness of digital implementation Experience Assisted in developing and executing work package budgets Familiar with work package scheduling and timeline management Awareness of regulatory agencies and ensuring compliance with regulations and standards Experience in handling safety management on construction sites and implementing safety protocols Experience negotiating contracts with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients Experience resolving conflicts and addressing challenges during construction projects Experience overseeing quality assurance and quality control processes Awareness of implementing environmentally sustainable practices in construction projects Awareness of utilizing construction technology and software for project management and documentation Why work for us Our people are our biggest asset and we focus on recruiting, training and developing the people who can apply innovation to deliver the infrastructure of the future.
