We welcome applications 2 yrs. post-graduation looking to pursue and develop a career in practice nursing.Main duties of the jobWe are looking for a Practice Nurse who will be involved in several clinical area’s such as chronic disease management, health promotion, a range of treatment room skills including wound management, vaccinations and immunisations as well as supporting the practice management team in reviewing and delivery of clinical procedures and policies.About our organisationWith a growing practice population of 9070+ patients, we are within an easy commute from the centre of Bristol, and proximity to the M5 means we are just a short drive to some of the most picturesque parts of the British countryside. Candidates should be registered with the NMC and need to be able to work effectively within a busy team as well as independently and have excellent communication skills.Informal visits are welcome, please contact the Lead Practice Nurse Yolande Pratt via email – ypratt@nhs.netPractice NurseJob responsibilitiesKey Areas of Responsibility: To provide the full range of nursing services including:Wound care management (including dopplers and compression bandaging, in line with current evidence-based guidelines and suture removal)Routine immunisations and vaccinations given under a Patient Group Direction (with additional paediatric vaccination certification an advantage)Cervical ScreeningContraceptive pill checks / sexual healthUndertake long term condition reviews with appropriate training (e.g. Asthma/COPD, Diabetes, CKD, Hypertension)To deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriateOffer a holistic approach to travel health by providing comprehensive advice and risk assessments to patients prior to travel including illnesses, vaccinations and medicines, safe sex, food hygiene, sun protection.Provide emergency care to patients as necessary and attend annual Basic Life Support and Anaphylaxis training.To liaise with external services/agencies to ensure the patient is supported appropriately (vulnerable patients etc.)To support the clinical team with all safeguarding matters in accordance with local and national policiesTo understand practice and local policies for substance abuse and addictive behaviour, referring patients appropriatelyAdditionally, the candidate should be able toUndertake the collection, storage, and dispatch of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears etc and ensure the cleanliness of any equipment used, as per policy.Chaperoning and assisting, where appropriate.Assist in the provision of minor surgery if HCA unavailable.Assist in the implementation and management of appropriate health and safety and infection control policies, as defined in local and national polices.Contributes to management of medicines and vaccines as per policy.Monitor and ensure the safe storage, rotation, and disposal of medications.Take responsibility for and comply with existing drugs policies regarding administration and custody of medicines and be aware of legislation and NMC advisory documents.Ability to obtain and document informed consent (either verbal or written)Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care.To delegate clinical responsibilities appropriately (ensuring safe practice and the task is within the scope of practice of the individual)Continually review clinical practices, responding to national policies and initiatives where appropriateTake prompt and appropriate action on receipt of complaints as per GP Practice Policy and participate in investigation where required.Report and record all incidents according to GP Practice Policy taking appropriate action, as necessary.Participate in the review of significant and near-miss events applying a structured approach, i.e. root cause analysis (RCA)To undertake continuing professional development undertaking training for specific clinical tasks as well as support and participate in shared learning within the practice.Confidentiality:While seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters.
