Responsibilities

As a Practice Nurse, your primary duties will include:

  • Delivering comprehensive nursing care to individuals, families, and communities.
  • Conducting patient assessments, including medical history reviews, health screenings, and diagnostic tests.
  • Administering immunizations, injections, and wound care services.
  • Supporting individuals to manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma, and hypertension through patient education and care plans.
  • Running specialist clinics such as family planning, cervical screening, or smoking cessation.
  • Monitoring medication protocols and assisting with prescriptions where appropriate.
  • Making referrals to other healthcare professionals when needed.
  • Promoting and maintaining adherence to infection control and patient safety measures.
  • Providing mentorship for trainee nurses or newly qualified staff.
  • Maintaining accurate patient records and confidentiality in compliance with healthcare regulations.
Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with the following attributes and qualifications:

Essential:

  • Registered General Nurse (RGN) with a current NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registration.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a practice, community, or primary care setting.
  • Knowledge of chronic disease management, immunizations, wound care, and infection control protocols.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work empathetically with diverse patient groups and team members.
  • Proven ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record systems and basic IT skills.

Desirable:

  • Specialist training or qualifications in areas such as diabetes management, cervical screening, asthma care, or travel health.
  • Experience in triaging and managing primary care emergencies.
  • Fluency in additional languages to support diverse communities.
Day-to-day

A typical day for a Practice Nurse will includе:

  • Preparing and managing clinics for routine and walk-in care.
  • Completing patient check-ups, conducting basic diagnostic tests, and following up on results.
  • Providing tailored advice and supporting patients to achieve improved health outcomes.
  • Collaborating with General Practitioners, Healthcare Assistants, and other Practice Nurses to ensure comprehensive care delivery.
  • Responding to patient queries via telephone or in person and ensuring a triage system is effectively followed.
  • Participating in training, audits, and clinical meetings to contribute to the continuous improvement of the practice.
  • Ensuring compliance with CQC standards and other regulations.
  • Staying up-to-date with policies, procedures, and new evidence-based practices in health and care delivery.
