Lead Occupational Therapist – SEMH Schools (London)Job Title: Lead Paediatric Occupational Therapist for SEMH SchoolsLocation: Multi-Campus SEMH School Settings in South West LondonContract Type: Full-Time, PermanentHours: 37.5 Hour Week; Flexible working across 6 days (Monday-Saturday)Reports to: Team Lead and Director of Services for Occupational TherapyContract: Summer Contract with benefits (see below). Part-time or term-time contracts also considered.Job PurposeThe Lead Occupational Therapist will design, implement, and manage a high-quality occupational therapy provision across multiple SEMH campuses. This role combines leadership and clinical responsibilities and will work with education and therapeutic teams to support pupils with complex needs and neurodivergence in primary and secondary settings.Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership and ManagementLead and coordinate the OT service across all campuses.Provide leadership and support for a team of OTs and OT assistants.Develop and enforce OT policies, procedures, and service delivery models in line with school strategies.Ensure effective allocation of caseloads and staff resources.Attend leadership meetings and contribute to whole-school planning.Coordinate induction for new staff and foster collaboration with the wider therapy team and health professionals.Communicate performance or management concerns to the director of services.Clinical PracticeDeliver specialist OT assessments and interventions for SEMH and neurodiverse pupils.Develop, monitor, and review individual therapy plans.Provide clinical reports to support EHCPs, annual reviews, and tribunal processes.Promote inclusive practice through classroom strategies and environmental modifications.Lead therapeutic interventions and support transitions between provisions.Training & Capacity BuildingDesign and deliver staff training on embedded OT strategies and trauma-informed practices.Support the development of trauma-informed, therapeutic classrooms.Mentor staff on embedding OT into daily school life.Safeguarding & ComplianceMaintain confidential records in line with GDPR and HCPC standards.Adhere to safeguarding policies and ensure service quality through audits and improvement.Person SpecificationBSc or MSc in Occupational TherapyHCPC RegistrationRoyal College of Occupational Therapy RegistrationMinimum 4 years’ post-qualification experience with complex children and young peopleExperience in SEMH, education, or alternative provision settingsUnderstanding of attachment, trauma, and neurodevelopmentStrong report writing and multi-agency workingDesirable: Postgraduate training in trauma-informed care; knowledge of SEND processes including EHCPs and Annual Reviews; experience with Looked After Children or significant social care involvement; understanding of positive behaviour support.What We OfferPassionate, forward-thinking team; CPD opportunities and funded specialist trainingClinical supervision and reflective practiceOpportunities to innovate and lead within a growing SEMH provisionStaff wellbeing and flexible working optionsChance to make a life-changing impact on young peopleLondon Children’s Practice (LCP) is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of people.
