We are seeking an experienced Rail Depot Operations Specialist to join our Client Engineering and Advisory Services team. This is a client-facing role that combines deep operational knowledge with strategic insight to optimise depot performance and support major rail projects. The successful candidate will provide practical expertise and holistic understanding of depot operations, ensuring alignment with wider railway operations and future technologies. We are looking for someone to join our growing advisory business who add their knowledge and experience to enhance our collective capability. The successful candidate will be a strong team player with excellent collaboration skills. They will be an effective communicator with a proven ability to engage stakeholders at all levels, with a proven ability to translate technical and operational insights into clear recommendations. To find out more about our Rail and Advisory business by clicking on the following link and discover what awaits you at WSP https://www.wsp.com/en-GB/hubs/transit A little more about your role… Provide operational insight to support rail operational planning and digital visual simulation of depots, covering activities from train preparation to heavy maintenance and overhaul. Validate and interpret depot performance models developed by remote modelling teams, ensuring accuracy and actionable insights for clients. Engage with clients to advise on depot optimisation strategies and operational improvements. Support the development and design of new-build depots as part of large infrastructure projects. Contribute to assessments of new or changing rolling stock fleets and their impact on depot operations. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver consultancy services and innovative solutions. Potential involvement in international projects, offering varied and challenging work. What we will be looking for you to demonstrate… Proven experience in managing or operating rail depots. Strong understanding of depot equipment usage and specification. Experience in rostering and managing depot operational staff. Demonstrated ability to optimise depot performance. Familiarity with digital technologies for depot optimisation. Experience supporting design projects Desirable Experience Chartered status or membership of a relevant professional body. Consultancy experience (preferred but not essential). Involvement in fleet acceptance or assessing impacts of new rolling stock on depot operations. Don’t quite meet all the criteria?
