About the role We are seeking a skilled and proactive Building Maintenance Surveyor to join our Estates team. This site‑first role requires regular presence across our estate to assess building conditions, oversee works, and engage directly with contractors and stakeholders. Key responsibilities Identify building defects and develop specifications and tender documents. Manage maintenance projects from inception to completion and deliver high‑quality, cost‑effective solutions aligned with the Estates Strategy. Plan and undertake internal and external building surveys and maintenance tasks to ensure fit for purpose standards of condition and compliance. Liaise and co‑coordinate with university departments to schedule works alongside ongoing activities. Support the University Computer Aided Facility Management (Invisa) system and asset register. Manage the tendering of building works and produce drawings and specifications. Take financial responsibility for allocated building projects and process orders and invoices. Adhere to health and safety legislation and university policies. Carry out any other duties in line with business needs. About you To be successful in this role you will require the following qualifications, experience and skills: Qualified to at least HND level in Building Surveying or a related discipline. Experienced in building surveying, ideally within a maintenance context. Adaptive and comfortable working in a dynamic, site‑based environment. Knowledgeable in building pathology, statutory compliance, and health & safety. Skilled in preparing specifications, managing contractors and overseeing projects. Confident using ICT systems, including CAFM systems. A strong communicator with excellent organisational and problem‑solving abilities. Motivated, diligent and committed to continuous improvement. Qualifications and experience Minimum HNC in Surveying or equivalent professional experience. Extensive experience managing planned and reactive maintenance and undertaking condition surveys. Proven record of delivering projects and maintenance across complex estates. Experience engaging external contractors and specialist consultants. Good working knowledge of statutory regulations and relevant contracts (JCT, Building Regulations). Working knowledge of CAFM systems. Desirable: IOSH/ NEBOSH certificate, asbestos management course, RICS or CIOB membership, full driving licence. Benefits Generous annual leave entitlement (38 days inclusive of bank holidays).
