Family Support Worker

We’re looking for a compassionate and skilled Family Support Worker to join our Neurodevelopmental Family Support Service, commissioned by North Lanarkshire Council (Education & Families). Base pay: £26,800 - £29,351 per annum, 35 hours per week, permanent contract. You’ll play a key role in supporting children and young people with a neurodevelopmental profile and their families, through person-centred, practical, and emotional support. You’ll hold a caseload and provide targeted one-to-one interventions, group sessions, and tailored information to help families better understand and navigate challenges. Collaboration is at the heart of this role. You’ll work closely with Education & Families, NHS Lanarkshire, and community partners to strengthen links between families and local supports. Responsibilities Plan and implement targeted interventions and supportive programmes for children and young people with a neurodevelopmental profile and/or emotional and behavioural challenges, and their parents/carers. Develop knowledge of local services, projects, and referral pathways to enable signposting and referrals. Provide early supportive interventions and access to other services, including 1:1 support, as required. Maintain effective working relationships within multi‑agency child‑focused services (Education & Families, CAMHS, NLC Community Hubs, Social Work, and the Voluntary Sector). Work in an open and collaborative manner with families, respecting their individuality and protecting confidentiality. Participate in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of any interventions. Contribute to the provision of reports and statistical information using agreed recording tools. Be aware of and comply with all Education & Families / NHS Lanarkshire / North Lanarkshire Carers Together policies, procedures, and local guidance (e.g., child protection, health and safety). Undertake training as identified by the Family Support Lead and/or Manager. Drive to various locations across North Lanarkshire and undertake occasional evening and weekend work. As part of the wider NLCT Team Promote and implement the aims, objectives, and commitment to carers of North Lanarkshire Carers Together. Work with relevant organisations to ensure consistent, accessible, and proportional information for individual carers. Support the development and dissemination of information for carers and professionals around the work of North Lanarkshire Carers Together. Provide a signposting and referral service through incoming enquiries, linking carers into appropriate supports. Participate in meetings and forums related to the post (supervision, staff team meetings, development sessions). Undertake any other tasks deemed appropriate by the Family Support Lead and/or Manager. Person Specification Essential Good standard of general education. Experience working in health, social care, education, or the third sector. Effective, meaningful involvement with neurodivergent children or those with social, emotional and behavioural needs and their families. Experience working on own initiative. Experience working as part of a team. Childcare or health care knowledge from qualifications or training. Skilled networker, comfortable in multi‑agency meetings and networks. Ability to produce and contribute to written reports in line with organisational and partner requests. Excellent interpersonal skills; empathise with carers and young carers; actively listen in one‑to‑one supportive conversations; initiate and sustain positive relationships; present ideas concisely and clearly. Good IT skills with experience in relevant Microsoft packages. Confident self‑starter who can manage and organise workload to achieve outcomes within a defined timescale. Empathetic, non‑judgemental attitude. Willingness to travel; willing to work within normal office hours; ability to work effectively from home. Full clean driving licence and access to a car. Ongoing clear Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) registration. Desirable Relevant degree or qualification in Childhood/Youth Development, Children & Families, Autism or Counselling/Therapeutic interventions. Experience facilitating group work to children and/or parent carers. Experience working with children with additional support needs. Understanding of the issues, challenges and barriers that face unpaid carers. Skilled in the use of Charity Log. Skilled in the use of JotForm.
