Role profile We have an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Associate or Associate Director to join our London M&A team. This role will have a particular focus on the energy and energy transition sector. You will become part of a thriving team and involved in a wide variety of transactions and projects in the sector. The ideal candidate will have a core practice focused on energy M&A experience, but also with some energy commercial, regulatory and/or financing experience. We're flexible on the exact skillset range outside of a core energy M&A practice. You will be given responsibility for building client relationships and business development whilst working in a collaborative and supportive team environment. The practice Our corporate team is an established leader within the mid‑market, advising UK and international organisations on all aspects of buying and selling public and private companies and businesses. Many of our transactions are cross‑border in nature, with values typically of £50m to £500m and covering the firm's core sectors. One of the firm's turbocharged sectors is energy and energy transition, and we have a busy team within London corporate M&A working the space. We also work closely with our specialist cross‑service line energy teams covering regulatory (and grid), project finance, real estate, planning, construction and disputes. We've an impressive bench covering the full lifecycle of projects from inception through to secondary markets M&A and decommissioning. Find out more about the practice here: https://www.osborneclarke.com/sectors/energy-and-utilities/ . In short, OC has a market leading team involved in renewable energy both in the UK and internationally. The work We have a market leading reputation acting for UK mid‑market energy and infrastructure funds on corporate mandates: Foresight, FJEN (JLEN), Downing and Octopus are all key clients We also work with commodities trading companies on their M&A and financing mandates – in the UK and internationally, e.g. Trafigura We've made strong progress in recent years with DFIs, and for example are on the EBRD English law panel We work at the cutting edge of regulatory development, for example advising on the recent CCUS clusters being developed at HyNet and Net Zero Teesside We have also worked on several energy VC mandates recently, including for example with an EV battery recycling company The technologies this has covered include Solar PV and rooftop solar BESS and energy storage AD, biogas and biomethane OFTO, offshore wind supply chain and investment work Hydrogen, CCUS Low carbon permit trading (VERRA, Gold Standard) PPP and regulated infrastructure work The team We have a bench of 17 London corporate partners, covering M&A, VC, PE and ECM across all of the sectors the OC specialises in. Within the London team there are two partners specialising in renewable energy investment work – which spans M&A (most of the work), as well as VC, and the equity side of both project development and energy financing. We've got around 35 other fee earners in London corporate at all levels. You would work for a range of team members in London corporate and beyond, including working closely with the London projects team. Technical skills and experience You will have knowledge and experience of transactional energy work and the ideal candidate will also have experience in commercial energy arrangements, regulation and/or financing, which will have been gained at a well‑respected firm in this field. As a guide, due to the nature of the work and the structure of the team, we are ideally looking to appoint a Senior Associate or Associate Director with a passion for this area, although we will consider candidates with more or less experience.
