Job Summary This substantive post is based at Staffordshire Children's Hospital at Royal Stoke which is part of the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust. Based at the child development centre on the Royal Stoke site the successful applicant will join a well‑established community paediatric team to provide a comprehensive community paediatric service for Stoke on Trent and North Staffordshire. This will include participation in the child protection rota 9-5 Monday to Friday. There is no requirement to participate in the West Midlands SARC service. The post holder will assess, diagnose and manage common community paediatric problems including pre‑school ASD. ADHD assessment is not required as this is provided by the local CAMHS service. Main Duties Fully trained and able to undertake independent Looked After Children assessments. Join the department for peer review sessions in safeguarding and developmental paediatrics. Provide secretarial support through a dedicated secretary and support secretary in nearby shared offices. Qualifications Fully registered with the GMC. BLS/PL S/PiLS trained. A postgraduate qualification such as MRCPCH, MSc, DCH, DCCH, MBA or other relevant diplomas (desirable). Clinical Experience Minimum 4 years (or equivalent) postgraduate training, two of which at ST1/2 level in paediatrics or community paediatrics. 6 months experience within Looked After Children, with the ability to assess normal children and recognise/manage abnormalities. Understanding of community setting differences and Level 3 Child protection. Management & Administrative Experience Experience and understanding of clinical audit, clinical governance, service planning and management issues. Willingness to participate in service developments and project work, and to mentor junior staff (desirable). Teaching Experience Willingness to take part in teaching, evidence of continuing professional development. Experience supervising junior medical staff, ability to teach clinical skills, commitment to continuing medical education. Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates, formal training in research or teaching methods (desirable). Research Experience Participation in research or clinical audit; conducting audit and research (desirable). Personal Attributes Willingness to work unsupervised, good written and oral communication skills, time management and teamwork. Ability to work within a multi‑disciplinary team and under pressure. Good organisational and interpersonal skills and a caring, enquiring attitude towards patients. Flexibility and readiness to undertake additional responsibilities at local, regional or national level (desirable). Personal Circumstances Ability and means to meet travel requirements of the post.
