Basingstoke, United Kingdom Teaching Personnel Full time

Job Title: Support Manager Location: Basingstoke, Hampshire Salary Range: £28,598 - £31,022 per annum (full-time), term time only Contract: Full time, permanent About the Setting This specialist provision operates as a short-term alternative placement unit for pupils who are temporarily removed from mainstream school due to significant social, emotional, mental health or behavioural challenges. Located in Basingstoke, Hampshire, the site offers a calm, structured environment designed to support young people in transition, helping them to re-engage with learning and move successfully back to their mainstream or next placement. The pupils typically present with complex needs including social, emotional, communication and interaction difficulties (SECID) and often join the unit at a point when their needs are disrupting standard classroom provision. Staff work with urgency, care and precision to restore stability, embed positive routines and support reintegration into mainstream or specialist pathways. This role could be a great step up for a very experienced member of school support staff or a break from the classroom for trained teachers. Role Overview The successful applicant will take on the key role of Support Manager, overseeing the day-to-day operational leadership of the provision. The post-holder will support the Team Leader to implement ongoing behavioural interventions, maintain effective communication across staff, pupils and external stakeholders, and ensure that the therapeutic environment remains safe, consistent and purposeful. This is a high-impact role suited to a candidate with strong leadership capability, experience in behaviour management and a genuine commitment to improving the life chances of young people who have experienced disruption to their education. Key Responsibilities Oversee the behaviour, engagement and welfare of pupils placed in the unit as temporary alternative provision. Assist the Team Leader in the implementation of bespoke behavioural and therapeutic interventions. Ensure consistent application of communication systems, routines and expectations across the setting. Maintain positive, professional contact with external agencies, families and relevant stakeholders. Support the evaluation of pupil progress and contribute to decision-making regarding reintegration or onward placements. Promote a safe, inclusive, structured environment that enables re-engagement with learning and reduces risk of exclusion. Lead and mentor staff, modelling best practice in behaviour support and facilitating team coherence. Person Specification Significant experience working with young people with social, emotional and behavioural needs, ideally in an alternative provision or specialist educational setting. Proven leadership or supervisory experience, able to motivate and support a team under challenging circumstances. Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to build productive relationships with pupils, families, external professionals and internal staff. Resilience, flexibility and a calm, consistent approach under pressure. Commitment to upholding high standards of safeguarding, behaviour management and inclusive support. What the Provision Offers A meaningful opportunity to contribute directly to a transformative educational setting, where staff see immediate impact on young people's lives. A supportive, values-driven working culture in which collaboration and professional development are encouraged. A well-resourced environment in a conveniently accessible location in Hampshire, with parking and local transport links. A clear focus on transition and reintegration, offering a dynamic role bridging therapeutic support and educational practice. Safeguarding Statement The provision is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All post-holders are required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and meet all required safeguarding pre-employment checks. Applications are welcome now and will be processed on a rolling basis; early submission is advi. #J-18808-Ljbffr
