Senior Associate Water Resources Planning - Environment – Mott MacDonaldLocation: Brighton, Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Croydon, London, Reading, Southampton (South preferred) – UKContract Type: Permanent · Work Pattern: Full TimeOverviewThe water sector is at the core of Mott MacDonald’s heritage. We collaborate with UK water and sewerage companies to lead water resource planning and development. We deliver environmental assessments across water resources planning (WRMP, DMP, DWMP) and lead in Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA), Natural Capital Assessment and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG). The role provides technical leadership in Water Resource Planning – Environment within the Environmental & Sustainability Services (ESS) team, driving environmental technical delivery on major water project work.You will join an expanding team of over 100 environmental and sustainability professionals across 18 UK offices. The position is to lead growing environmental assessment capabilities in water sector projects and work with clients to deliver high‑profile water resource projects.Role responsibilities will include engaging with clients and stakeholders, contributing to technical deliverables, and collaborating with multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver sustainable outcomes.Your Key Responsibilities Will IncludeProviding technical leadership to environmental and sustainability teams to deliver SEA, HRA, Natural Capital and BNG assessments for WRMPs.Driving innovation and sustainable outcomes and influencing design solutions at project and programme levels.Technical approver of environmental and sustainability deliverables in line with business and environmental management systems.Strategic client engagement with diverse clients and stakeholders from public and private sectors, including public consultation events, workshops, public inquiries, and industry events.Reviewing fee estimates and proposals, supporting business development, and delivering ESS services to grow the business.Essential Qualifications and ExperienceExperience of strategic water planning (e.g., Water Resource Management Plans, Regional Water Resource Plans, Drought Plans, DWMP).Experience leading environmental assessments for the water sector or other sectors (desirable).Significant experience in SEA, HRA, or Natural Capital Assessment (NCA).Bachelor’s degree in a related technical subject (essential).Master’s degree in a relevant subject (desirable).Chartered status with a professional institution (e.g., CIWEM, IEMA) or equivalent (desirable).Experience working in diverse multi‑disciplined teams and leading teams to produce environmental and sustainability deliverables.Experience in client-facing environments with ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.Excellent planning, budgeting, and programme management; strong written and verbal communication skills.Problem solving, creative thinking, and continual improvement mindset.UK ImmigrationMott MacDonald Ltd. are not currently offering sponsorship to candidates under the Skilled Worker visa route in the UK.
