Main duties of the job Job purpose The post holder will be accredited (or working towards acquiring full accreditation) CBT therapist working in Sheffield Talking Therapies. They will provide Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to adults with depression and a range of anxiety disorders in line with NICE guidance and the National Talking Therapies manual. General requirements The post holder will offer CBT for depression and/or anxiety to patients in a variety of settings, predominantly related to primary care. To meet the National Talking Therapies standards (which currently includes an individual minimum 52% recovery rate, 48% reliable recovery rate and 67% reliable improvement). To ensure productivity expectations are met in line with the National Talking Therapies manual, currently to deliver 20 clinical contact hours (pro-rata) per week. These standards are reviewed nationally, and it is expected that staff will continue to meet any updated standards. To meet patient needs by working across Sheffield according to demand. Working a minimum of 22.5 hours per week & working Thursday PM to support you in the role. Thursday afternoons is service wide non-clinical time which involves, meetings, forums and CPD opportunities. To offer at least one early appointment and one late appointment per week and Saturday working on occasion if required. Mandatory attendance at profession-specific and service non-clinical time which involves supervision, line management, meetings, forums and CPD. Job responsibilities CLINICAL Assess patient’s suitability for CBT interventions in line with NICE guidance in a stepped care model. Providing consultations with Talking Therapies staff on suitability, feeding back to stakeholders on suitability issues to support the patient to access the right intervention. Completing onward referral to other services where appropriate. Assess and manage risk collaboratively with the patient and adhere to the Talking Therapies risk protocol, working to ensure the safety of the patient and others. Formulate, implement and evaluate therapy programmes for patients. To complete all mandated session by session outcome measures. The post holder will work with people from different cultural backgrounds; and will, where necessary, work using an interpreter. The post holder will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to equal opportunities and cultural competence. Use highly developed communication skills in working with people to understand their personal and often very sensitive difficulties. Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment and treatment of patients in line with the service and the National Talking Therapies manual. Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as appropriate, conveying CBT and other psychological formulations with sensitivity in easily understood language. Adhere to an agreed job plan relating to the number of patient contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per day in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment is delivered in an accessible timely manner. Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols; and complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service. Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach. Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process. Liaise with other health and social care staff from other agencies as appropriate to appropriate care for patients. Demonstrate clinical leadership appropriate to banding where required. Deliver face-to-face and virtual treatment sessions with patients on a weekly basis. Be able and willing to physically be in work for the full working hours if there is a service need. TRAINING AND SUPERVISION Contribute to the development; teaching and training of other mental health professionals and other staff working in the service. Attend clinical supervision on a regular basis as agreed with Manager and as outlined in the National Talking Therapies manual. Undertake Clinical Supervisors training and provide clinical supervision to other Cognitive Behavioural Therapists. Ensure all mandatory training and CPD is up to date in line with service protocol. Person Specification Training & Qualifications Recognised qualification as a High Intensity Talking Therapies CBT therapist. BABCP Accreditation or Provisional Accreditation for CBT OR Post‑graduate, doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent) accredited by the HCPC and/or BPS OR Registration as a Clinical Psychologist with the HCPC. Accredited with an appropriate professional body e.g., BABCP (or as a minimum standard, provisional accreditation) Post‑graduate, doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent) accredited by the HCPC and/or BPS Accredited with an appropriate professional body e.g., BABCP (or as a minimum standard, provisional accreditation) Registration and accreditation with a professional body must be maintained throughout employment OR A core mental health professional (i.e., Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Registered Mental Health Nurse) BABCP Accreditation or Provisional Accreditation for CBT Completed Talking Therapies Long Term Conditions Training Additional master’s level or post graduate qualification or training Talking Therapies Supervision training qualification. Experience Demonstrable experience of working with people experiencing common mental health such as Depression and a range of anxiety disorders - preferably in a Talking Therapies service or in a Primary Care setting; OR; experience working in other mental health service settings and able to demonstrate excellent understanding of Talking Therapies and Primary care. Experience using routine outcome measures and monitoring; and use of ADSMs. Ability to meet agreed/specified service targets and standards (access; waiting times; recovery). Ability to manage own caseload and time Skilled in the assessment and management of all types of clinical risk within scope of practice and follow agreed protocols and procedures. Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients In absence of Primary Care clinical experience is able to demonstrate a high-level understanding of Anxiety and Depression and how it presents in Primary Care Ability to assess service users presenting with complex psychological difficulties; and advise on appropriate onward management, either treatment within Talking Therapies or referral on to an appropriate service. Experience of working with a wide variety of service user groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism. Evidence of being able to work effectively in multi-disciplinary settings and teams Demonstrate clinical leadership appropriate to banding where required. Experience of working in a Talking Therapies service and/or Primary Care Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision. Experience of the application of psychological therapy in different cultural contexts. Experience of working with patients experiencing a range of physical health conditions/symptoms Work in a service where agreed targets and outcome measures are in place demonstrating clinical outcomes Knowledge & Skills Skilled in the psychological assessment, intervention and management of common mental health problems such as Depression and a wide range of anxiety disorders Skilled at achieving required standards through delivering agreed job plan in line with 20 clinical hours per week pro rata and ability to meet the national recovery rate targets for Talking Therapies services Ability to use session by session outcome measures to monitor practice Well developed, high-level skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to service users, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups. Knowledge of current evidence-based treatment models relevant to CBT practice in the treatment and management of common mental health problems.
