We are looking for a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our specialist SEN school near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, where compassion, patience, and understanding make all the difference. In this rewarding role, you’ll work with students who have SEND including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism, and challenging behaviour. Using a trauma‑informed approach, you’ll help pupils feel safe, valued, and supported as they build confidence and rediscover a love for learning. About the Role As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll play a key part in delivering high‑quality, person‑centred support within small classes (maximum 10 pupils) alongside a dedicated teaching and clinical team. You’ll use empathy, consistency, and trauma‑informed strategies to create a calm, nurturing environment where every child can succeed. Your Responsibilities Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to create a sense of safety and belonging. Use trauma‑informed practices to support emotional regulation and reduce anxiety or distress. Model positive behaviour and communication at all times. Adapt resources and strategies to meet individual learning and emotional needs. Collaborate with the teacher, SENCO, and therapists to deliver personalised support plans. Encourage independence and celebrate progress, however small, with genuine enthusiasm. Promote resilience, wellbeing, and self‑esteem through patience, consistency, and encouragement. What We’re Looking For GCSE Maths and English Language (Grade 4/C or equivalent) essential. Experience or understanding of working with children with SEMH, Autism, or trauma backgrounds. Awareness of trauma‑informed practice and de‑escalation techniques. Calm, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting challenging behaviour. Strong teamwork, communication, and problem‑solving skills. Must be commutable to Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
