Assistant Professor in Environmental History (111009-1125) The Department of History seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor in Environmental History on a full‑time and indefinite basis from 1 September 2026. The position is part of one of the largest History departments in the UK, covering a range of disciplines and geographical areas. Responsibilities Teach modules such as HI113 Europe in the Making, HI153 Making of the Modern World, HI2K2 Imperial Natures: Environments and Empires from c. 1450 to the Present, HI2K9 Historical Research. Propose and deliver your own modules where appropriate. Supervise final‑year dissertations and contribute to MA teaching. Lecturing, seminar teaching, essay tutorials, office hours, marking of undergraduate work, monitoring student attendance in accordance with the Department’s quality assurance practices. Act as personal tutor to an assigned group of undergraduate students, providing pastoral support and guidance. Engage in active research in Environmental History or a related field. Qualifications PhD awarded by 1 September 2026. Expertise in Environmental History with fresh, exciting research that complements existing University, faculty and departmental research strategies. Experience of teaching at university level and supervision of research projects. Demonstrated ability to engage with themes such as oceanic history, energy history, animal history, non‑western, indigenous, and/or decolonial methodologies. Early‑career researchers welcome; applicants from under‑represented backgrounds encouraged.
