The University of Glasgow's Small Animal Hospital is seeking to recruit a Clinician to contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by contributing to teaching, assessment and administrative processes associated with professional phase (final year) veterinary undergraduate students participating in rotations within the small animal hospital. You will have oversight of all undergraduate teaching within the small animal hospital and contribute to the development of clinical teaching.

The School of Biodiversity One Health and Veterinary Medicine has an excellent international reputation in teaching, clinical services and research and is accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), the European Association of Establishments of Veterinary Education (EAEVE) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Applications are invited from candidates with a veterinary degree or equivalent, registerable with RCVS and experience within clinical practice.

Job Purpose

To contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by contributing to teaching, assessment and administrative processes associated with professional phase (final year) veterinary undergraduate students participating in rotations within the small animal hospital. The postholder will have oversight of all undergraduate teaching within the small animal hospital and contribute to the development of clinical teaching. This is a Post-doctoral role in Small Animal Hospital at the School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  1. To have oversight of clinical teaching of the BVMS students in the Small Animal Hospital (primarily the Small Animal Hospital rotation).
  2. To provide clinical teaching and assessment within the professional phase of the BVMS programme in the Small Animal Hospital.
  3. To provide and facilitate the provision of effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support learning.
  4. To play a key role in the ongoing development and design of the curriculum, in a manner that supports a researched and scholarly approach to student learning.
  5. To support initiatives to enhance the learning experience of students in the small animal hospital and ensure the requirements of the regulatory bodies are met.
  6. To contribute to quality assurance and enhancement activities, curriculum review and programme re-accreditation with the University and professional bodies to ensure high quality education provision is maintained.
  7. To support the development of creative and innovative approaches to teaching and learning in accordance with the University's Quality Enhancement strategy, so that the educational opportunities available to students are maintained or improved.
  8. To participate in the Advisor of Studies (student mentorship) Programme and assist students with difficulties.
  9. To contribute to the enhancement of the University's international profile in line with the Strategic plan Inspiring People Changing the World.
  10. To assist with the development of the Optivet ophthalmology service, to include assistance with in-patients, surgery scheduling, OOH support, student teaching, etc.
Knowledge/QualificationsEssential:
  1. Veterinary degree (or equivalent, registerable with RCVS).
Desirable:
  1. Postgraduate small animal clinical qualification (e.g. certificate) [and/or registered for such training].
  2. A track record of development and delivery of teaching.
  3. Understanding and experience of databases and other IT applications/packages.
SkillsEssential:
  1. Excellent communications skills, both orally and written.
  2. Enthusiasm for teaching and learning.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills and presentation skills.
  4. Time, project and people management skills.
  5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  6. Self-motivated, able to plan for contingencies and think strategically.
  7. Ability to accept collegiate responsibilities and act accordingly.
Desirable:
  1. Evidence of scholarship (e.g. evidence-based practice in education, developing small scale projects in relation to learning or teaching).
ExperienceEssential:
  1. Sufficient experience within clinical practice.
Desirable:
  1. Experience in the delivery of teaching and practical skill training at undergraduate veterinary student level. For example, supporting Extra Mural studies students or student veterinary nurses on placement, final year students in clinical rotations.
Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7, £40,497 - £45,413 per annum.

This post is full time and open ended.
