The Ultrasound Department at the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital has a vacancy for a Sonographer in our expanding department. The successful candidate will hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound and will primarily cover General Medical (including paediatrics and EPC), Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Sonographers who only perform Obstetric, Gynae and EPC will also be considered. 10% retention and recruitment premium applies to this post and will be added to the advertised salary. Candidates interested in evening and weekend part‑time employment may also be considered. The department consists of two units – Imaging and Women’s Health – and operates 13 ultrasound rooms. Equipment includes Samsung RS80EVO and Hera W10 systems with an ongoing rolling replacement programme. All candidates must be able to attend a face‑to‑face interview and practical assessment. Responsibilities • Independently perform and report ultrasound examinations in General Medical, Obstetrics and Gynaecology (including paediatrics and EPC). • Train student sonographers on a regular basis. Person Specification – Qualifications DCR or Degree in Radiography Up to date CPD file Post‑graduate Diploma in ultrasound covering modules of Obstetrics, Gynaecology (including EPC) and General Medical MSC in ultrasound (desirable) Counselling qualification (desirable) HCPC registered (desirable) Person Specification – Experience Evidence of training experience for award of post‑graduate diploma in ultrasound NT accreditation Post‑qualification independent NHS practice experience Trainee mentoring experience (desirable) Person Specification – Skills Be able to care and show empathy to all patients Deal sensitively with patients from all cultural backgrounds Ability to pass on knowledge to others in a clear and concise way Competent for full range of ultrasound examinations in Obstetrics, Gynae and General Medical Proven computer skills Dexterity, coordination and sensory skills Legible handwriting Assume correct scanning position to minimise RSI, neck and back injuries ECDL (desirable) Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a submission for Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) check to confirm no prior convictions.
