Salary: £43,527.51 plus London Allowance £4,613.61 (London Allowance applicable to London applicants only) Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract 12 months & Full Time 37 Hours Per Week. The Opportunity As a trusted People Partner, you’ll be the go-to expert for managers and staff, guiding them through complex challenges and empowering them to lead with confidence. In this strategic role, you’ll influence workforce planning, organisational design, talent development, and performance management—all while ensuring alignment with BTP People & Development policies and legislation. This isn’t just about advice; it’s about driving organisational success through people. What You'll Be Doing Provide specialist advice and guidance to managers and staff on a wide range of people matters, empowering leaders to manage confidently while ensuring compliance with BTP People & Development policies and relevant legislation. Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), coaching and supporting managers to handle complex cases independently, promoting best practice and consistency across the organisation. Deliver strategic input on workforce planning, organisational design, talent management, and performance management to help shape a high-performing culture. Manage a diverse caseload, including complex sickness, employee relations, disputes, disciplinary matters, and organisational change initiatives. Facilitate workshops and coaching sessions to build management capability and drive continuous improvement in people practices. Collaborate on workforce planning and organisational development, ensuring operational alignment and retention of key talent. Provide data-driven insights, preparing reports and analysis to inform decision-making and support strategic projects. Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners, acting as the first point of contact for staff associations and support groups. Qualifications CIPD qualified and working towards MCIPD status (or equivalent experience). Experience Proven track record in delivering HR generalist services within a large, multi-disciplined operational organisation. Experience supporting organisational, managerial, and cultural change initiatives. Skilled in providing clear, balanced advice on a wide range of HR issues to management teams. Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels, internally and externally. Demonstrated success in coaching and empowering line managers to manage people cases independently. Skills Professional, persuasive, and influential—able to command confidence from senior leaders, employees, trade unions, and external partners. Strong negotiation, influencing, and interpersonal communication skills. Resilient under pressure, maintaining conviction where appropriate. Collaborative team player with a dynamic and creative approach. Customer-focused with a strong achievement orientation and drive to deliver. Knowledge Significant HR generalist knowledge, including UK employment legislation and case law. Excellent understanding of HR operations and services. Desirable Mediation training. Previous experience within the police service. Strong knowledge of BTP processes and procedures. What We Offer 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing to 30 days after 5 years.
