Interventional Radiology Nurse/ODP

Surrey Heath, United Kingdom NHS Full time

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Interventional Radiology Team at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, based at Frimley Park Hospital. This is a part-time fixed term position for two years.

Interventional Radiology (IR) is an ever-expanding specialty offering the newest, most up-to-date technologies within modern medicine. IR procedures are less invasive than conventional treatments as most procedures can be done through small incisions. Patients are often able to avoid general anaesthetic as the majority of procedures can be performed with a combination of local anaesthetic and conscious sedation, which can be provided by an adequately trained nurse or ODP.

Main duties of the job

The department consists of three theatre specification IR suites, where patients undergo their minimally invasive sterile procedures both electively and in an emergency. We are uniquely placed with a variety of work across various specialty areas. Interventional Radiology provides an extensive service, including Endovascular Aneurysm Repairs/FEVARs & embolisations, CT guided biopsies and ablations, as well as diagnostic, ultrasound, biopsies & cardiac angiograms. The role of an IR Practitioner requires a range of skills from pre-assessment, perioperative care (scrub and circulating), and post-anaesthetic care following the procedure. Conscious sedation is provided, following adequate training to keep the patients comfortable & relaxed during the procedure. Those with no experience in this area will be provided with training, competencies & support.

Job responsibilities
  1. To assist in a range of radiological procedures, particularly interventional procedures.
  2. To provide assessment of care needs together with the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of individualised care for patients attending Radiology.
  3. To deputise for senior members of staff in their absence.
  4. To behave in a manner as laid down in the NMC Code of Professional conduct and to ensure that no duties are undertaken that are outside the scope of competency.
  5. To promote multi-disciplinary patient-centred care.
Person SpecificationQualifications
  • Nursing or ODP qualification with NMC/HCPC registration.
  • Undertaking or completed further academic study.
Specific Competences
  • Computer Literate.
  • Able to work as part of a team.
  • Able to manage conflicting priorities.
