Tutorial Learning Mentor Department: Engineering Salary: £27,350 to £31,590 per annum Contract Type: Permanent Full time 37 hours per week Reference: REC2332 | Closing Date: Monday, 5th January 2026 The Opportunity You will play a key role in supporting a caseload of learners throughout their time at college. You will be there to guide, encourage and empower our students to make the most of the support available, helping them access both internal services and external resources with confidence. You will plan and deliver engaging group tutorials on a range of topics, including personal development, digital literacy, online safety, study skills and career pathways in the digital and creative industries. Your sessions will reflect real-world industry contexts and include important themes such as British Values, the Prevent Duty and Equality and Diversity, helping our learners build both confidence and awareness. A key part of your role will be supporting student wellbeing. You will act as a first point of contact for safeguarding concerns and promote a safe, respectful and inclusive environment. You will offer support on a wide range of issues, from mental health and bullying to personal safety, making sure that every learner feels heard and supported. Through one-to-one mentoring and small group sessions, you will help students set and achieve SMART targets, build self-esteem and develop greater self-awareness. You will work closely with parents, carers and external agencies when needed, ensuring that learners have a strong network of support around them. You will also track attendance, punctuality and progress, identifying learners who may be at risk of falling behind. Working with course tutors, you will contribute to effective interventions and help learners stay on track. Your support will make a real difference in keeping students engaged and motivated. About You Ideally, you will be someone who genuinely enjoys working with young people and supporting their personal and academic development. You will bring a positive, proactive approach and have the confidence to engage with learners both in group settings and one-to-one. You will be approachable, empathetic and a good listener, able to build trusting relationships with students while maintaining clear boundaries. You will be confident in identifying when a learner needs extra support and know how to respond appropriately, following safeguarding procedures and working closely with other staff and external agencies where needed. Strong communication and organisational skills are key. You will be someone who can deliver engaging tutorials, keep accurate records, and work collaboratively with colleagues across the department. You will also be comfortable handling sensitive information and responding to a range of pastoral and academic issues. You will have experience in a similar role within an educational or support setting, and a good understanding of the challenges faced by young people in education today. You should be able to adapt your approach to suit individual needs and be committed to helping each learner achieve their potential. Most importantly, you will care deeply about making a difference and helping learners succeed in both their studies and wider lives.
