Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust Clinical Psychologist The closing date is 09 December 2025 Due to the promotion of the existing post-holder an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Clinical Psychologist to work in the Central Lancs CMHT based in Ormskirk. This is an ideal post for a newly qualified individual. The successful applicant will join two other Clinical Psychologists working in the Team, and a total of nine Psychological Therapists working within the Central and West Locality. We are a friendly and supportive service, taking Trainees from the three North West training courses on placement, and we actively encourage CPD. Please contact us if you wish to discuss this opportunity. Main duties of the job To provide a qualified specialist clinical psychology service to clients referred to the multi-disciplinary CMHT. To provide specialist psychological assessment, formulation and psychological therapy. To offer advice and consultation to non-psychological colleagues and to other non-professional carers. To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the Specialty and the CMHT's policies and procedures. To utilise research skills for audit policy and service development within the area served by the service. Job responsibilities Please see the attached job description and person specification for more information about this role. Person Specification Education & Qualifications Doctoral level training (or equivalent) in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the BPS. Eligibility for registration with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical). Knowledge Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management. Skills in the use of and interpretation of Neuropsychological Testing e.g. WAIS V etc. Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to service users, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both inside and outside the NHS. Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology. Ability to plan and prioritise own clinical workload and research programmes. Computer literate, familiar with word, PowerPoint and SPSS software packages. Experience Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of Adults across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in‑patient settings. Experience of working with Adults presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity. Personal Ability to sit in constrained positions when working with clients. Ability to sustain intense levels of concentration, responding and participating as required. Ability to self‑reflect and use clinical supervision appropriately. Ability to cope with unpleasant working environments or conditions. Ability to cope in, and deal with, highly distressing emotional circumstances. Other Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi‑media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings. Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
