Go back Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust Dentist Technician The closing date is 30 November 2025 To undertake the duties of a (Band 5) dental technician to clinical prescription producing dental technical restorations related to removable prosthodontics. The vast majority of the work of this post holder will be the construction of removable appliances. Main duties of the job Technical Work The construction complete and partial removable prostheses in acrylic, silicone, composite, cast dental alloys. The construction of removable prosthodontic implant-supported restorations/prostheses. Works allocation To ensure that turnaround times are met. To elevate to the Laboratory Manager when turnaround targets are not being met Quality Ensure that work produced by the laboratory is of the highest possible standard and meets the needs of the service users prescribing the work. To elevate any quality concerns to the Laboratory Manager To elevate to Management any concerns around the quality or delivery of externally procured lab work Additional Duties To undertake any duties, commensurate to grade, that are required to ensure the smooth running of the service. About us You will be working in a close knit team of dental technicians, in a busy laboratory but with a calm atmosphere. Job responsibilities The construction of a range of removable appliances for clinical staff, postgraduate students and undergraduate students. To be familiar with CAD/CAM technology and its current role within dental technology. To be able to demonstrate specific skills i.e. high levels of dexterity and coordination using CAD/ CAM technology . To be able to scan and design removable appliances for periods of intense prolonged concentration using VDU equipment daily, whereby there may be a requirement for sitting in a restricted position for a substantial portion of time. Prioritise their own workload including planning for appliances and formulating adjustments where necessary. This will involve ensuring all appointment dates are met and the keeping of up-to-date records of all work allocated using correct laboratory protocols. All work to be produced in line with Medical Devices Regulations. Ability to communicate with staff and students regarding the design and prescription of conventional crown and bridge restorations. This will also mean spending time on consultant, postgraduate clinics unsupervised and may involve communicating with patients regarding shade taking with occasional exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances. Assist with the routine day to day running of the laboratory and assist clinical and nursing staff with collection of completed work. Ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of own work areas plus have responsibility for specific items of laboratory equipment and report defects in need of remedy to the Lead Technician Person Specification Educational and Qualifications Registered Dental Technician Evidence of significant continuous professional and personal development Fully qualified dental technician holding a BTEC Diploma/BSc in Dental Technology or equivalent Experience Experience of the production of: Removable Dental Appliances Experience of Denture Design Experience of producing Metal frameworks experience of 3shape and planmeca digital design software experience in composite gingival and tooth colouring worked in Hospital/NHS setting Skills, Knowledge & Ability Good communication skills both oral and written Highly motivated and flexible approach to work Willingness to learn new ways of working and respond positively to changing work demands Ability to prioritise and organise own workload Ability to work as a member of the laboratory team Experience in CAD/CAM Design Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
