Greater London, United Kingdom East London NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Due to a review of the staffing establishment an exciting opportunity has arisen for additional Band 4 Nursery Nurses to join the team at the East London Mother & Baby Unit. Applicants for this position will need to be a nursery nurse with the appropriate training, experience of working with babies and who are able to demonstrate interest in Perinatal Mental Health. Working in a Mother & Baby Unit is a unique role for nursery nurses to work within an inpatient mental health ward, supporting babies and their mothers who are experiencing mental health difficulties. The East London Mother and Baby unit is a 12 bedded unit based within the City & Hackney Centre for Mental Health. This family‑centred specialist Mother and Baby Unit cares for people who experience severe mental health difficulties during the later stages of pregnancy and following the birth. The mothers are either experiencing mental health problems ante‑natally or up to one year post‑natally and require direct support in ensuring care of the infant is upheld whilst supporting the mother through their own recovery. The ward team consists of registered mental health nurses, nursery nurses, social therapists and a life skills recovery worker. This work is further enhanced in therapy by a psychologist, occupational therapist, parent‑infant psychotherapist, art therapist and dance movement therapist. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a sound knowledge of caring effectively for infants under 1 year and to use this knowledge to teach and guide colleagues and mums. Assess and implement care for infants and ensuring needs are met and that mum is supported to provide safe and effective care to baby. To contribute to the development of standards of care for both mothers and babies on the unit, providing feedback as necessary and taking positive steps towards implementing necessary change. To support wider family network as necessary around knowledge and care of babies. Any successful applicant will also be expected to support the City and Hackney Centre for Mental Health in providing care and treatment and upholding the safety of both patients and staff within the unit. You will be expected to work long days, nights and weekends. You will also be expected to undertake training in physical holding skills. Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations. Kindly refer to the job description and person specification that is attached to the vacancy profile. This advert closes on Monday 15 Dec 2025 #J-18808-Ljbffr
