An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Bookkeeper / Accountant to join our established and fast paced accounts department. You will oversee a portfolio of property and business accounts for clients connected to rural estates, ensuring all financial records are accurate and up to date. The role involves close collaboration with managing land agents and offers a rewarding balance of technical accounting work and client engagement. Salary: Competitive, depending on experience. Key Responsibilities Bookkeeping and Accounts Management Maintain complete and accurate accounting records for allocated clients using Sage Line 50 (or similar) and Excel. Manage all aspects of: Sales Ledger – raise and post invoices, rent demands, and receipts; liaise with Property Managers. Purchase Ledger – process and pay supplier invoices; liaise with suppliers regarding queries. Nominal Ledger – maintain chart of accounts, journals and budgets. Bank Reconciliations, Petty Cash, and VAT Accounting. Reporting and Compliance Produce regular management reports (monthly, quarterly, and annual). Respond promptly to queries from managing agents and clients. Run Sage Payroll for clients, ensuring all employees are paid correctly and on time. Prepare and submit VAT returns, P11D returns, and liaise with accountants and HMRC as required. Monitor cash flow and balances, requesting funding where needed in liaison with the relevant agent. Carry out year-end procedures and ensure compliance with all financial and reporting deadlines. Client and Team Liaison Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, agents, suppliers, and accountants. Provide a friendly, efficient and confidential service at all times. Candidate Profile Essential Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar bookkeeping or accounting role. Proficient in Sage Line 50 or another accounts package, Sage Payroll, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Experience preparing VAT and P11D returns. AAT qualification (or equivalent practical experience). Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills. Able to prioritise and manage workload independently. Good communication skills and a professional manner. Desirable Interest in rural property or estate management. Experience working with trusts, partnerships or land-based businesses. Why Join Us?
