Health Care Support Worker – Surgical Specialties Join to apply for the Health Care Support Worker – Surgical Specialties role at NHS Scotland. Shift pattern: rotational shift pattern, 37 hours per week. Effective 1 April 2026, full‑time hours will be reduced to 36 hours. Responsibilities include: Assists with nursing care under the supervision of a trained nurse, including reception, admission, transfer and discharge. Ensures patients receive required fluid and nutritional intake. Observes and reports any change in patient condition verbally to the nurse in charge. Assists patients unable to self‑care with personal hygiene and dressing, adhering to all manual handling procedures and policies. Carries out and assists with minor investigatory procedures such as urinalysis and urine collections, reporting findings to the trained nurse. Participates in the accurate patient documentation (MUST, care rounding, food/fluid balance, PUDRA charts) and completes files appropriately. Maintains cleanliness and tidiness of clinical areas, equipment and storage cupboards, excluding controlled drug storage, and reports defects to the nurse in charge. Maintains stock of supplies for central and clinical stores (excluding medicines). Assists with the safe custody of patient personal belongings in accordance with organisational policy. Complies with all Health and Safety legislation and policies, including COSHH, fire, infection control and manual handling.
