Health Care Support Worker – General Surgery One day ago – Be among the first 25 applicants. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included. Shift Pattern Rotational shift patterns – 37 hours per week. Responsibilities Assist with nursing care under the supervision of a trained nurse, including patient reception, admission, transfer and discharge. Ensure patients receive prescribed fluid and nutritional intake. Observe and report any change in patient condition, communicating verbally to the nurse in charge. Assist patients unable to self‑care with personal hygiene and dressing, following manual handling procedures and policies. Carry out and assist with minor investigatory procedures such as urinalysis and urine collections; report findings to the trained nurse. Participate in updating accurate patient documentation: MUST, care rounding, food/fluid balance, PUDRA charts, and file documents appropriately. Maintain cleanliness of clinical areas, equipment and storage cupboards, excluding controlled drug cupboards; report defects and concerns to the nurse in charge. Maintain adequate stock of central and clinical supplies (excluding medicines). Assist with safe custody of patient’s personal belongings in accordance with organisational policy. Comply with Health and Safety legislation and policies, including COSHH, Fire, Infection Control and Manual Handling. Work Hours Effective 1 April 2026, full‑time working hours for all Agenda for Change posts will be reduced to 36 hours.
