Join to apply for the Technical Author role at Acorn Group We’re looking for a Technical Author to join our Architecture Team and help bring clarity, structure and storytelling to the way we share technical knowledge across the organisation. You’ll play a key role in shaping how we communicate our architecture, systems and best practices, turning complex ideas into clear, engaging content that helps engineers build better software. This isn’t a back‑office writing role. You’ll be embedded with our architects and engineers, sitting alongside squads, joining discussions and helping translate great thinking into guidance that others can easily apply. You’ll help shape our engineering voice, how we explain, teach and document what we build. We work together in our Liverpool HQ three days a week because collaboration and conversation are at the heart of how we build and share knowledge. Job Title Technical Author Location Liverpool City Centre HQ / Hybrid (3 days in office) Salary £45,000‑£55,000 depending on experience What You’ll Do Work closely with architects and engineers to document systems, patterns and best practices Create and maintain clear, accurate and accessible technical documentation Help define how architectural decisions and technical standards are recorded and shared Write internal guides, playbooks, onboarding materials and developer‑focused articles Contribute to diagrams and visual explanations that bring architecture to life Review and refine documentation written by others to keep it consistent and clear Collaborate with designers and product teams to make content simple, engaging and easy to find Promote a culture of learning and continuous improvement through clear communication What We’re Looking For Experience writing technical documentation or developer‑focused content Strong communication skills and a passion for clarity and storytelling Ability to understand complex technical topics such as APIs, cloud systems or microservices Comfortable collaborating directly with architects, developers and product teams Organised, detail‑oriented and proactive in driving consistency A curious mindset and a genuine interest in technology and software design You don’t need to be a developer, but you should be excited by how things work and confident talking to people who build them. Why This Role Matters Great documentation is how ideas scale. The work you do will help every engineer onboard faster, make better decisions and deliver with confidence. You’ll be the bridge between deep technical expertise and practical, accessible knowledge that everyone can use. You’ll have real ownership over how we structure, write and present our technical content, with the freedom to experiment and make improvements that raise the bar across the organisation. Why Join Us A supportive architecture team that values clarity, openness and continuous learning A chance to shape how technical knowledge is shared across the business Exposure to modern technologies including .NET 8, React, Azure, Docker and Kubernetes Opportunities for professional growth, training and exploration A creative, collaborative workspace designed for problem‑solving and innovation Team and Culture You’ll join a friendly, collaborative architecture team that works closely with squads across engineering, design and product. We believe that great documentation is a key part of great engineering, and that clear communication enables innovation. We’re open, curious and always looking to make complex things simple.
