OverviewA lifting equipment inspector evaluates and tests a wide range of lifting accessories and powered systems to ensure they meet industry specifications and safety regulations.ResponsibilitiesInspect general lifting accessories including chain slings, webbing slings and wire rope slings.Examine bespoke lifting and handling equipment.Evaluate manually operated lifting equipment such as chain hoists, wire rope machines and beam trolleys.Inspect power operated lifting equipment (electric, pneumatic, hydraulic powered systems and powered winches).Inspect runway beams and lightweight crane structures.Inspect electric overhead travelling cranes.Inspect offshore cargo carrying units.Perform mobile crane examinations.Carry out inspection and testing work to industry specifications, on site or in workshops.Complete necessary paperwork in line with set procedures and industry specifications.Assist with repairs and servicing of lifting equipment where required.Adhere to regulations surrounding health and safety, quality and environmental protection.Travel between different sites and workshops to work on common construction kit.Complete administration work in a fast‑paced office environment.Maintain a high level of organisation and commitment to work.QualificationsIndustry‑standard qualification from the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) or equivalent.Experience of carrying out method statements and risk assessments.Good knowledge of inspection and testing techniques for different types of lifting equipment.In‑depth understanding of general engineering.Excellent personal organisational skills and attention to detail.SkillsExcellent knowledge of health and safety requirements.Passion for machinery and technical aspects of the industry.Ability to pick up new technical systems quickly.High level of organisation and commitment to your work.How to Become a Lifting Equipment InspectorComplete an industry‑standard training course.
