Job Overview Apply as a Lifting Equipment Operator at Go Construct. The role involves operating manual and power‑operated lifting and platform equipment. Responsibilities Working with manual and power‑operated lifting equipment such as forklift trucks, cherry pickers, telehandlers, scissor lifts, rope swings, or mobile cranes. Carrying out routine mechanical and health‑and‑safety checks on lifting equipment. Assisting with repairs and servicing of lifting equipment where required. Adhering to regulations surrounding health and safety. Working at a client’s site – at a construction site, warehouse, or other location. How to Become a Lifting Equipment Operator You can complete a training course at an accredited CPCS test centre or an apprenticeship. You will also need an industry standard qualification from the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF). Although this role requires certain qualifications, many employers also value enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and the ability to follow instructions. To work on a construction site you will need a valid Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) card. Training and Apprenticeship Complete the required CPCS training at a specialist provider. Hold or obtain an IPAF accredited qualification. Optionally, complete an intermediate apprenticeship such as NVQ/SVQ Level 2 or Level 2 Lifting Technician (takes around two years). Apprenticeships are open to anyone over 16. As an apprentice you’d be employed full‑time (minimum 30 hours a week), with time split between on‑the‑job experience and training. Work Experience Experience as a plant operator is helpful. You could start as an assistant to an experienced operator and progress as your abilities improve. Work experience gained at school, weekend or holiday work, or from a relative who works as an operator, is valuable to potential employers. Skills Good attention to detail Knowledge of lifting equipment Ability to use, repair and maintain machines and tools Manual dexterity and hand‑efficiency Teamworking and communication Problem‑solving skills Qualifications NVQ Level 2 in Plant Operations (or other relevant qualifications) Level 2 Lifting Technician apprenticeship NVQ Level 5 in Plant Operations (advanced) Salary Newly trained operators can expect to start at £25,000.
