Senior Clinical Fellow in Toxicology & Emergency Medicine Closing date: 14 December 2025 Salary: £65,048 - £73,992 pa (excluding London Zone) Location: St Thomas' Hospital, central London. Out of Programme Training Experience (OOPTE) in Clinical Toxicology (ST4-7) and Senior Fellow in Emergency Medicine (12‑month post). Main Duties of the Job Clinical Toxicology: You will undertake specialist training in Clinical Toxicology, covering both inpatient and outpatient management of poisoned patients. You will conduct research in an area of departmental interest (e.g., recreational drug toxicity, deliberate self‑poisoning) with the expectation of submitting paper(s) for publication. You will also help deliver Clinical Toxicology education as part of the department’s portfolio. Emergency Medicine: You will participate in a middle‑grade rota, working with senior ED trainees and supervising junior middle grades, FY2s, and ENPs. The Emergency Department, led by twenty‑five Adult and ten Paediatric Emergency Consultants, sees over 150,000 new patients per annum and operates a separate Paediatric ED associated with the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Clinical Toxicology and Emergency Medicine responsibilities will be split 50:50. The post holder will participate in the ED night (60%) and weekend rota (75%) of the full‑time post. About us The post will have an educational supervisor in Emergency Medicine and an Educational Supervisor in Clinical Toxicology. Funding will be available to enable the post holder to attend relevant courses. Person Specification Education / Qualifications Eligible for registration with the GMC MRCEM ≥ ST4 level in Emergency Medicine BSc, BMedSci (or other intercalated degree), other degrees / qualifications ALS/ATLS instructor ED training scheme in UK or international equivalent recognised in the UK by RCEM Additional experience in one or more of other related specialties (GIM, ITU/PICU) Skills / Knowledge / Ability Experience in performing procedures relevant to emergency medicine Competent to work without supervision Clear, logical thinking showing an analytical/scientific approach Appropriate level of clinical knowledge Shows knowledge of evidence‑informed practice Shows awareness of own limitations Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team Experience of clinical risk management Understanding of clinical governance Demonstrates breadth of awareness of issues in emergency medicine Interest in undertaking an OOPTE in Clinical Toxicology and developing a specialist interest in Clinical Toxicology as part of ED training Additional Information Experience of undertaking previous audit projects Experience of supporting more junior resident staff Previous audit projects with closure of loop Previous research projects with abstract and/or full paper publications Previous research in clinical toxicology Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
