Overview We are recruiting for a 12‑month OOPTE in Clinical Toxicology and Emergency Medicine based at St Thomas' Hospital, with an expected start date of August 2025 or soon thereafter. A deferred start in February 2026 may also be considered. The post allows an ST4‑7 level trainee in Emergency Medicine (or an international equivalent) to develop and expand their skills in Clinical Toxicology in a specialist centre and to undertake research in this field. It is split 50:50 between Emergency Medicine and Clinical Toxicology. Responsibilities Clinical Toxicology: Attend to patients presenting with poisoning in both inpatient and outpatient settings; develop specialist training in Clinical Toxicology; conduct research in an area of interest such as recreational drug toxicity or deliberate self‑poisoning, with an expectation that this work will lead to one or more papers for publication; deliver education in Clinical Toxicology as part of the department’s portfolio. Emergency Medicine: Participate in the ED night (60 %) and weekend rota (75 %) of the full‑time post, working with senior ED trainees and supervising junior middle grades, FY2s and ENPs. Work within a department led by twenty‑five adult and ten paediatric emergency consultants, seeing over 150 000 new patients per annum. Provide an educational role with supervision in both Emergency Medicine and Clinical Toxicology and receive funding to attend relevant courses. Qualifications Applicants must hold full registration with the GMC and be currently an ST3+ in Emergency Medicine in the UK or hold an internationally recognised equivalent in the UK by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine.
