Linux Engineer

Linux Engineer - £60,000 - Bristol (On-site, 5 days/week) Join an international leader in technology services as a Unix/Linux Support Engineer, keeping critical systems running smoothly for a major defence programme. You'll be hands‑on with Solaris (10 & 11, ideally 8 & 9 too) and Linux (Red Hat) environments, solving complex technical problems and making a real operational impact. What you'll do Monitor, maintain, and support Unix/Linux systems in production & dev environments Resolve incidents, service requests, and system alerts in line with SLAs Perform patching, updates, and routine system checks to optimise performance & security Troubleshoot software, hardware, and connectivity issues for end-users Manage user accounts, permissions, file systems, and security best practices Write scripts (Bash/Python) to automate processes and improve efficiency Create and maintain technical documentation Provide on‑call support on a rota What you'll bring Proven Unix/Linux support & admin experience Solaris (10 & 11, ideally 8 & 9 too) + Linux Red Hat Scripting skills in Bash or Python Experience with Ansible, Docker/Mirantis/Podman, and VMware tools (VROPS a bonus) Strong troubleshooting, problem‑solving, and customer service skills Ability to translate technical details for non-technical users Eligibility Sole UK nationals only Must be SC clearance eligible Able to work on‑site in Bristol 5 days/week Salary: £60,000 + benefits RSG Plc is acting as an Employment Agency in relation to this vacancy. #J-18808-Ljbffr
