Intrapartum Ward Manager

The post holder will provide clinical leadership, facilitate professional development, and carry continuing overall responsibility for the management and co-ordination of the co-located Midwifery-Led Birthing Unit and act as back up to the other Intrapartum lead midwife for the Consultant led Labour Suite The post holder will ensure a high standard of woman-centred care is delivered effectively and efficiently within available resources. The post holder will be allocated clinical and managerial time within the rota to support the needs of the service. The role will include supporting midwives and women in spontaneous labour and promoting physiological birth, with guidance from Trust policies and guidelines. The post holder will ensure that care provided is in keeping with the vision, priorities and ambitions advocated within the department and the West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust. It is anticipated that the post holder will have effective visionary leadership and sufficient experience as would be necessary to underpin changing practice. Person Specification Education and qualifications NMC Registered Midwife Evidence of recent provision of evidence-based care. Personal/professional development at degree level or soon to complete NIPE Leadership course Evidence of continual professional development Experience and knowledge Post-registration experience at band 6 in all areas in accordance with the Midwives Rules and Code Demonstrate the ability to meet trust values. Able to facilitate and assess the professional development of midwifery practice. Experience of staff recruitment and retention, appraisal, managing sickness and performance Able to act as a midwifery specialist advisor to team members and other professional groups in formal and informal settings. Previous experience and involvement in midwifery research or audit. Experience of co-ordinating a labour suite or birthing unit Is visible as an expert in physiological birth and demonstrates forward-thinking, evidence-based approach towards midwifery care and women's choice. Knowledge of change management Clear understanding of national recommendations in maternity care Experience of the development of others Experience of data collection and analysis Knowledge and experience of risk management Understanding of complaint management Evidence of initiating and implementing change processes Evidence of innovating practice Evidence of resource management Previous experience of people management Management responsibility of clinical area Skills and abilities Ability to prioritise workload and delegate as required.
