Clinical Lead Nurse NHS West Midlands, England, United Kingdom Location Harplands Hospital, Ward 1, Stoke-on‑Trent, ST4 6TH Job Summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Lead Nurse on Ward 1, Harplands Hospital. This vacancy would suit someone who has gained at least 12 months Staff Nurse experience and is looking to progress in their career. As a Registered Nurse you will be responsible for supporting your manager in ensuring that our service users' needs are met through the delivery of high‑quality care. As a centre of excellence, you will offer a person‑centred approach to their independence and well‑being. Ward 1 is a 13‑bedded mixed‑gender acute admissions ward for patients between the ages of 18‑65. We pride ourselves in being a dynamic, fast‑paced acute ward specialising in complex mental health needs. Main Duties The post holder is responsible for the delivery of care and for the supervision of others who are carrying out all aspects of the caring process. The post holder will assist in setting and maintaining standards of care, participate in maintaining effective management of the team and unit, and also maintain effective integration with the multi‑disciplinary team to facilitate a collaborative approach to patient‑focussed care. The post holder will act as a reliable role model for junior staff. Perform all aspects of the role in accordance with Trust policies and other national bodies. Participate in the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of individual care plans. Provide specialist advice to other members of staff and act as a role model. In conjunction with the Ward Manager, take responsibility for setting, maintaining and evaluating standards of care throughout the 24‑hour period. Liaise with all members of the multi‑disciplinary team and outside agencies in the implementation of patient care. Ensure that care activities are research‑based and keep pace with changes in the field. Contribute to the development of ideas and innovative practice. Initiate and participate in departmental audit as requested by the Ward Manager. Person Specification Essential Qualifications Registered Mental Health Nurse at either Diploma/Degree level. Registered with the NMC. Essential Experience Experience of assessment and care planning within a health or social care setting, including an understanding of need‑led assessments; experience of community‑based mental health services and other health and social care services; experience and achievement in working at a multi‑agency level; experience of reviewing care plans and monitoring care arrangements. Relevant experience in either a paid or voluntary capacity of working with adults. Essential Knowledge Effective inter‑personal skills, evidence of scope of professional practice, delegation skills, decision‑making skills, resource coordination, problem‑solving skills, ability to act as mentor, counsellor, educator and advocate, leadership and management skills, communication both verbal and written, teaching sessions at all levels within a team, presentation skills, assertiveness, ability to challenge, adaptability, auditing/data collection, full awareness of and ability to meet NMC requirements and Trust policies, procedures and guidelines. Knowledge of MHA procedures, care programme approach, legislative issues pertaining to mental health, Human Rights Act, Disability Discrimination Act, protection of vulnerable adults, safeguarding principles, rehabilitation, NSF for long‑term conditions, COSHH, health and safety, risk assessment/management, food hygiene. Desirable Management training, mentorship programme, degree level education or work‑towards degree, computer skills. Counselling skills, evidence of research‑based care implementation, presentation skills, negotiating skills, analytical thinking, ability to use a computer for internet, e‑mail and word processing.
