The Christie NHS FTClosing Date: 16 July 2024Location: Leighton HospitalJob SummaryThe Christie NHS Trust, in collaboration with Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT), is seeking an experienced and fully qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioner to join the clinical haematology team at Leighton Hospital. This role is pivotal in the development and delivery of haematology services, providing advanced clinical care and contributing to service improvement initiatives.Main Duties of the JobClinical ResponsibilitiesConduct comprehensive clinical assessments and request necessary investigations for haematology patients.Interpret test results and develop appropriate management plans.Provide cross-cover for clinical haematology services, including inpatient care, under the supervision of registrars and consultants.Offer expert advice to patients, carers, and staff, ensuring robust and ethical care pathways.Maintain and enhance expertise in clinical haematology, collaborating with medical staff for optimal patient management.Consent patients for treatments and procedures, including non-medical prescribing of first-line chemotherapy.Communicate complex medical information to patients and carers, including prognosis and palliative care options.Educate patients and carers on health promotion and illness prevention.Management ResponsibilitiesProvide line management and support to the defined team.Contribute to the Trust’s and department’s objectives and participate in organizational developments.Engage in clinical and nursing advancements within the Trust, including mentorship and policy development.Participate in oncology advisory boards and relevant working groups.Training and EducationOffer specialist training and education locally, nationally, and internationally.Participate in clinical supervision and continue professional development.Contribute to the education program for healthcare professionals in haematology practice.Act as a role model, educator, supervisor, and mentor to instill and develop confidence in others.LeadershipCollaborate with clinical colleagues to propose service redesigns based on evidence under the guidance of the clinical director and head of directorate services.Participate in departmental meetings and demonstrate the Christie values.Research, Audit, and QualityPromote evidence-based practice and compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP).Support clinical trials and work closely with the Research and Development Team.Initiate and assist in clinical audits and contribute to the quality improvement agenda.CommunicationBuild trust and enhance the reputation of The Christie through effective relationships with staff and managers.Maintain patient care records and confidentiality as required by policy.Manage sensitive information and facilitate discussions around difficult topics, including end-of-life decisions.Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential:Registered Health Care Professional (e.g., Nurse, Pharmacist, Paramedic, Physiotherapist).First degree and MSc level in Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalent.Non-medical prescriber qualification.Evidence of continued professional development.Desirable:Advanced communication skills.Management qualification.Diploma in cancer care or haematology/BMT.Teaching qualification.Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification.ExperienceEssential:Expert knowledge in clinical haematology and multidisciplinary teamwork.Desirable:Senior clinical practice in clinical haematology.Evidence of policy and practice change involvement.Knowledge of service improvement techniques.SkillsEssential:Excellent teaching, presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills.Ability to work efficiently, demonstrate initiative, and manage time effectively.Desirable:Ability to teach and assess bone marrows.Computer literacy.KnowledgeEssential:Sound clinical knowledge base in haematology and haemato-oncology.Understanding of clinical governance.About UsThe Christie NHS Trust, in partnership with MCHFT, aims to enhance haematology services at Leighton Hospital.
