Overview Consultant Haemato‑Oncologist with an interest in Stem Cell Transplant / Director of Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant 6 PAs This advertised post is for a substantive Consultant to join the Haemato‑oncology Department at the Barts Cancer Centre, based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in the City of London. This is a new post, although the Director of Stem Cell Transplant component of the post is due to consultant retirement. The successful candidate will join the existing multi‑disciplinary team in the provision of inpatient and outpatient services for patients with haematological malignancies focussing on stem cell transplant. As Stem Cell Transplant Director, this individual will lead the stem cell transplant / cellular therapy programme across the trust and region, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory/accreditation standards. Aside from clinical duties, the consultant will contribute to the development of service pathways, participate in teaching and training of junior doctors and medical students, and engage in research activities aimed at improving transplant outcomes. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the clinical research program through actively recruiting patients to clinical trials. Responsibilities Active member of the Cancer Centre and help deliver the departmental mission of excellence in clinical care and teaching. Provide a comprehensive, efficient and high‑quality evidence‑based Haemato‑oncology service, with continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care. Lead, develop and organise the services in the charge of the post holder in line with the Trust/Divisional business plans and participate fully in the management of the Barts Cancer Centre. Provide clinical care for patients within Haemato‑oncology, including inpatients and outpatients, and give specialist advice and a referral service for other clinicians in the Trust. Lead clinical audit activities and undertake trust clinical governance activities, encouraging and fostering improvements in the quality and standards of clinical services. Provide clinical leadership in Haemato‑oncology within Barts Health NHS Trust. Participate in undergraduate teaching of Haemato‑oncology. Have corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of doctors in training and contribute to the comprehensive, efficient and high‑quality care of patients through treatment and management pathways. Coordinate provision of a consolidated service across all sites in the Trust; note that there is no diagnostic or laboratory haematology component to this post – Specialist Integrated Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Services (SIHMDS) is undertaken by the regional SIHMDS service based at the Royal London Hospital. Undertake administrative duties associated with the care of patients in their charge and the running of clinics or departments. Participate in the consultant on‑call rota and provide cover for colleagues in time of absence and leave when required; separate on‑call rotas exist for non‑malignant haematology, paediatric haematology, red cell haematology and Haemostasis/Thrombosis. Play a key role in providing a high‑quality clinical service for patients, increasing access of patient enrolment within clinical trials, and integrating the patient pathway within Barts Health NHS Trust and its referring hospitals. Maintain up‑to‑date specialist knowledge and provide evidence‑based care for all patients. Attend multidisciplinary team meetings. Communicate effectively and on a timely basis with general practitioners, community services and all health care agencies. Initiate and promote research and development activities with a clear focus on relevant clinical and scientific priorities. Engage fully in the annual job planning and appraisal cycle and contribute to the appraisal of doctors in training. Participate in the preparation for and representation at peer‑review site visits.
