Senior Clinical Fellow in Neuro-oncology For the purposes of this job description this clinical fellowship is intended to allow an experienced neurosurgical trainee to obtain experience over one year in a sub‑specialist interest within neurosurgery. This is a Royal College of Surgeons approved fellowship and will provide experience sufficient to allow a successful fellow to offer themselves for appointment to a consultant position involving a substantial commitment to this specialist area of neurosurgery. The assessment, investigation and treatment of patients with brain and CNS tumours, including experience with the operative techniques such as stereotaxy, image guidance, awake craniotomies, intra‑operative neuro‑monitoring and radiosurgery. The opportunity to conduct research into neuro‑oncology and publish research papers in peer‑reviewed journals. Participation in a multi‑disciplinary team consisting of neurosurgeons, oncologists, neuroradiologists, neurologists, neuropathologists, psychologists, palliative care physicians, allied health professionals and specialist nurses. Spending designated time in the specialist neuro‑pathology laboratory to observe and learn the molecular aspects of neuro‑oncology. Spending designated time with the oncologists to learn the non‑surgical management of patients with CNS tumours. Assisting and, in time, performing the majority of the oncology neurosurgical cases (depending on experience). Attending one or two national/international meetings each year and presenting abstracts.
