About the roleDo you want to be at the forefront of one of the world's most ambitious sustainability initiatives?Balfour Beatty have created iconic buildings and infrastructure all over the world over the past 115 years redefining excellence and setting the industry benchmark with every project.As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK's first decarbonised industrial cluster.Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Senior Electrical Estimator to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland. What you'll be doingTo be responsible for pricing change, capturing operational risks and ensuring accurate and effective delivery of estimating services during the execution of the project and in compliance with the contract requirements by implementing estimating strategies.Work as a senior figure in the Estimating team, including managing the workload and allocation of estimating resource within assigned bid teams. Undertake the role of Estimator, where requiredContribute to meeting the customer's cost forecasting and reporting requirements within the formats agreed in the contractOversee and/or interrogate design options and value solutions, and identify the attractiveness of a project based on sound estimating principlesReview drawings and specifications to prepare accurate costing sheets for materials, labour and equipmentEnsure compliance with Balfour Beatty procedures, including pre-construction gate processReview contract submission requirements, ensuring all financial information is identified and provided and accurate compliant design proposals are includedEstablish and agree key plant ratesAgree with engineering and planning key methods, outputs and plant selectionDetailed analysis of subcontractors' analysisManage and coordinate the preparation of preliminary and general expense pricing, including plant schedules and risk assessmentPrepare settlement papers and carry out any adjustments requiredResponsible for sign off of all cost elements prior to financial submissionsWork with suitable sub-contractors and specialists to update cost forecast and reportsEnsure that key specialists are utilised on each bid to optimise: design, specification, programme and valueManage the production of cost information and submissions for senior managementProvide considered responses to customer questions including post tender queriesEnsure that the project commercial team have received an effective handover of bid documentationManage customer contact, present proposals to the customer and contribute to customer meetings during the projectSeek to understand, lead the development of and implement the appropriate digital toolsets to execute cost take-off and other estimating activities, such as 5D cost planningEnsure that cost planning and estimating are accurate and reflect the project requirements and risk profileProvide mentoring on bids to Estimators and the bid teams, including commercial and technical adviceCarry out measurement and take-offs, pricing and entering the systemLive the Balfour Beatty ValuesEnsure a relentless focus on Zero HarmSupport the delivery of Balfour Beatty Sustainability activitiesNote: This section retains the original language where possible; see sections above for the updated formatting. Who we're looking forDetailed knowledge of electrical services including knowledge of HV/LV & instrumentationExperience of tendering projects in the Petrochemical, nuclear or regulated environmentsUndertaking of NAECI Labour agreementsExperience of pricing and developing customer MTO'sPrevious experience of managing the process of estimating projects, within the construction industry is requiredMembership of a relevant professional body and/or relevant professional qualification is desirable, such as RICS/CIOB/RIBA/ICE/CIBSEWorking knowledge of best practice solutions and optimisation of innovative ideas and an understanding of the principles of Lean Construction and 5D cost planning is desirableAn understanding of BIM and how to read and assemble BIM models and produce appropriate reports from them is desirableStrong interpersonal and communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with partners under time pressure. Experience of leading a team is desirable. Able to be a strong team player, as well as work on their own initiativeA desire to continuously pursue innovation and development, with a focus on the customer and the business is required. Proficiency in IT, numeracy and MS Office Basic & Estimating Systems is essentialDemonstrates passion and excitement for their work.
